Illinois Holocaust Museum Adding Armed Cops To Security Detail After DC Shooting
SKOKIE, Ill. (AP) -- The director of the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center says armed and uniformed Skokie police officers will help provide security for as long as necessary.
The move is in response to Wednesday's shooting at the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., where an elderly white supremacist shot and killed a guard.
Richard Hirschhaut (HER'-shawt) is the executive director of the Illinois museum. He says the facility already had a state-of-the-art security system when it opened in April.
That includes security guards and a metal detector. Hirschhaut would not disclose other security measures but says visitors won't be affected.
He says the shooting is a reminder that hate left unchallenged can have catastrophic consequences.
