In my neighborhood (tiny town of about 500- in New England) there are several folks who grow great veggie gardens and have little curbside stands. I regularly buy from them. I live alone but one of these growers also lives alone and we work for each other. He keeps me in veggies/fruits for my winter larder and in exchange I can his share for his larder. I honestly believe that I get the better bargain because my job only requires a few days to prepare his winter stache - while it takes him all summer to grow his crops.

Another grower had a bumper crop of beets last year. This person called around town and offered for us to go pick what we wanted - for free. I ended up canning 36 jars of home grown beets and shared them with folks less able than I am.

Country living is great!!!
