New York Times:

WASHINGTON American officials say they are seeing the first evidence that dozens of fighters with Al Qaeda, and a small handful of the terrorist group's leaders, are moving to Somalia and Yemen from their principal haven in Pakistan's tribal areas. In communications that are being watched carefully at the Pentagon, White House and Central Intelligence Agency, the terror groups in all three locations are now communicating more frequently, and apparently trying to coordinate their actions, the officials said.

I have maintained for some time (on no evidence, just a guess) that Osama bin Ladin has been hiding in Yemen among his fellow tribesmen.

Which is why no rumors of his presence in Pakistan have been circulating. I find it incredible that he could be on the run in the NW territories without some hint of his existence.

On the other hand, if he were in the midst of his fellow tribesmen in Yemen I could believe in a total information blackout.

Of course if this story is true they could be bringing the heat unto Osama.

Once again, the NYT comes through with total propaganda piece, written by some of the world's most stupid journalists. So, just who has identified the folks relocating to Yemen and Somalia as Al-Quaeda? These Pentagon yahoos are the same ones that claim total ignorance when it comes to tracking Bin Laden, right?

tompoe - I agree

I didn't see any evidence in this article.

Unfortunatly too many Americans have brcome conditioned to accept cleverly worded pieces like this as being factual.

It occurs to me that signs of al-Qaeda relocating to Yemen and Somalia are good. It indicates that pressure by the Pakistani military in the Swat region is working.

The new battlefield will be Somalia. That poor country has seen way too much violence, but it's a good thing we have a president with connections to Africa, eh?

This is a direct result of having a lot of young men who have given up on getting laid without getting killed first. Diabolical when you think of it.

First they were smoked out of Chechnya then out of Afghanistan now out of Pakistan. Next stop on the world tour-- Somalia. They seems to be only brave with school girls and peasants. Not so good at fighting real men.

Keeping them on the run is the point. Don't let them consolidate anywhere, don't leave them allies. Run them to ground.

The irony of your tone is appreciated. But we've had forces in Somalia and its neighbors since 2001; your compliant MSM covered that part up at the behest of the Bushies.

Yemen and Somalia? That would bracket the sea lanes through the Gulf of Aden, you think that there is a pirate problem now?

So like, if they know all of this is going on, why don't they just get an international arrest warrant from Interpol and intercept these terorrists as they attempt to move from safe haven to safe haven?

Our intelligence and law enforcement agencies must be related to the Keystone Cops or something.

Intelligence is limited. What, you think Pakistan has some kind of mind-reading device? These guys left Swat before the offensive. They hid among the refugees, picked up new ID papers in Lahore, and got on a boat to Kenya. None of those countries have instant data-sharing between government agencies, much less with the United States.

"This is an Irish neighborhood. I'm surprised you even got a phone call."

So if all of what you say is true, how does anyone know that they are even on the move? Last time I checked, they just can't waltz right through a certain country across the whole of the Middle East and walk into Egypt to get to Africa through which to walk the rest of the way to Somalia. Course, the best option would be to hop in a boat. But that's a tremendously long voyage and they'd fall prey to Somalia pirates before they could even get close.

All in all, I think you are underwhelming with your take on the situation. ;o)
