SEATTLE — A dog that ran off from its owner in Seattle's Seward Park found and ate some marijuana and got high. Owner Jen Nestor Waddell told KING-TV the 11-year-old black Lab mix named Jack was "just stoned" May 12 after they returned home from the park. The dog's eyes glossed over and he had trouble walking.

The vet said Jack had swallowed a large amount of dried, harvested marijuana. After some medication to induce vomiting and a night of rest Jack was back to normal.

Waddell told police about the drugs and joked they could borrow Jack to find them if they paid the $1,500 vet bill.

Dog gets "stoned" in Seattle park. This article is located in the Style section, which means it's in style to ingest pot in parks. I never knew! ;)

THE DOG WAS NOT STONED!
The THC in MJ has to first be activated by heat before being ingested in order to produce it's mild psychotropic (euphoric) effects. When MJ is smoked, it is heated, obviously. When prepared in food, it is first heated in a process to create an oil or a butter, or to a lesser extent simply mixed raw into a batter - and then baked.

This story reeks of reefer madness. Charging $1500 to regurgitate a dog - that vet should be in jail!

Yes, they had to induce vomiting because MJ is such a "dangerous" drug that to date has ki ll ed no one via overdose, including animals.

Are you sure of that? I wouldn't make assumptions about animals' body systems. Remember, as much as we might like chocolate, it is a dangerous substance for Fido.

I am not sure I would spend $1,500 at the vet to induce vomitting. Just make him comfortable, try to get him to sleep it off.

I am privileged to live with a yellow lab. I'm not sure I would be able to tell if she were "stoned". She is one mellow puppy (6 years old) and ALWAYS has the munchies. One question...why was the dog off its leash in public?

Pot laying around in a park so the dog can eat it and get stoned.

Seattle at it's best. Isn't the new Drug Czar the former Chief of Police of Seattle.

Oh big fat hairy deal. People have been getting their dogs named Kilo stoned for YEARS! And how do you think the police train dog to find drugs? They teach them to crave it, they want it, so they find it!

They train dogs to track a certain scent and reward them for it. We don't make dogs cokeheads and potheads to sniff for drugs.

Wasn't this scenario in a Cheech and Chong movie?

The dog could have eaten a bottle of Prozac and he probably would have died. Btw, who leaves large quantities of marijuana just laying out in parks?

What is your point?

"..of marijuana just laying out in parks?"

Probably someone who doesn't know how to conjugate the verb "to lie" either.

That poor dog owner was robbed $1500.
Not only have I eaten large amounts of marijuana before, but my cat has too.
The poor dog would have been perfectly fine without getting his stomach pumped. I can only be glad he was really high, as that might have helped calm him during the terrible ordeal stomach-pumping would probably be to a dog.

this is not funny, I would never allow my dog to ingest pot and would feel horrible if he did.

Why? Because he would space out and get hungry for a while? Would probably enjoy getting petted more, too. I don't advocate getting pets high (waste of pot, first of all,) but come on. If we were talking about say, heroin, then there would be cause for concern.

The dog probably would have been okay, but my guess is they didn't know it was pot before having the stomach pumped. If my dog showed with those symptoms, I don't think my first guess would be he ate a bunch of weed. It's not like you just find it laying around at the park... unfortunately.

When I saw the headline, I thought the dog had been 'stoned with rocks', ...I was disturbed for a minute until I read the article and saw, that was not the case.
