Palin-Letterman Still At Odds Over Comedian's Joke

WASHINGTON — Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is insisting that comedian David Letterman "apologize to young women" for a joke he made on the air about one of her teen-age daughters.

Letterman admitted on his show that his wisecrack about a theoretical statutory rape of one of Palin's daughters was in bad taste, but didn't go further. Palin, the Republican vice presidential candidate last year, said Friday that isn't good enough.

Letterman had joked that a Palin girl "was knocked up" by a player at a New York Yankees baseball game. He seemed to be referring to 18-year-old Bristol Palin, an unwed mother. But it was her 14-year-old sister Willow who was at the game with family members.

Interviewed on NBC's "Today" show, Sarah Palin said she thought it was "a degrading comment about a young woman. And I would hope that people would start really rising up and not accepting this."

Palin said "it's no wonder girls have such low self-esteem in America when a comedian can make a remark like this."

FYI everybody... "knocked up" means "got pregnant out of wedlock," not "raped."
And I do believe it's well-known that that's exactly what happened to Palin's OLDEST daughter, whom she proudly paraded around during the campaign.
Gee... you don't think it's possible that THAT's what Letterman was referring to in his "joke," do you?

Yes, but any sexual contact with a 14 yr is statuatory rape. I think letterman meant bristol, but on the outside chance they meant "whatever daughter is there", then it would technically be rape.

Our society will really have grown up when it no longer becomes acceptable to say anything about anyone that is violent in nature. Bristol Palin is a tragic statistic in a culture that embraces crass sexual content in the mass media, encourages young people to engage in sexual activitiy before they are mature enough to understand the consequences, and parents who are more involved and concerned with their careers rather than rearing the children they bring into the world.

Letterman won't apologize and that's his prerogative. He's free to make crass jokes about Politician's daughters that's fine too as I'm a believer in Free speech. However it doesn't change the fact that he doesn't have any class at all and that he's a complete A******.

Sarah Palin:

1. Does not understand the definition of the words comedy, or joke. Some jokes are offensive. If you don't like letterman, then change the channel. One of our countries freedoms is"FREE SPEECH".

2. I am tired of mothers of teenaged mothers getting upset when someone comments on it. If teenaged motherhood were a good thing, no one would be upset, but we all agree this is a bad thing. Teenaged motherhood is bad for the mothers, the children, the fathers-(oooh, lets forget about the fathers), the economy and society as a whole. Since Palin decided to be a mother, she should have spent more time making sure that her daughter had the tools to be successful in life instead of making us watch her complain about what the rest of us were already thinking. (She was not doing a good enough job with her older daughter)
