Stephen Baldwin's Home Foreclosed, Up For Public Auction

NEW YORK — Actor Stephen Baldwin's foreclosed home in the suburbs north of New York City will be publicly auctioned. Baldwin paid $515,000 for the 1.4-acre home in Rockland County in 1997. In 2006, he tried unsuccessfully to sell it. County filings show Baldwin and his wife Kennya defaulted on more than $824,000 in payments to mortgage holder Bankers Trust Co.

The auction is set for June 24.

A representative for Baldwin couldn't be reached for comment.

The actor has starred in movies such as "Bio-Dome" and "The Usual Suspects." Recently, he's appeared on reality television shows "The Celebrity Apprentice" and "I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!"

Just guessing here but maybe he borrowed against the equity in the house thinking (like millions of others) that the value of his house would continue to rise......but then the housing bubble burst and now he owes more than it's worth?

Unless you pay cash, you always end up paying several times more than the buying price because of the interest the bank charges. If he hasn't been paying the mortgage, besides the interest, there are penalty charges and the interest just keeps racking up. He probably hasn't been paying the taxes either.

If they had listed that property at anywhere near a reasonable price, it likely would have sold. There was a lot of press at the time quoting realtors in that area saying the Baldwins had vastly overpriced their place.

Stephen, could be a nudge from God about "false prophets"? I think Stephen in his current overzealous state is probably very hard to deal with and his family can't handle his craziness at the moment...Like his brother Daniel, sometimes you have to hit rock bottom. The industry cannot manage four Baldwin brothers all at star level. Some of them had to figure out they couldn't have Alec's career. I think its tough to get a taste of the highlife early and not be able to sustain a full time career working in the industry. What else can you or do you do? Only something like 4% of the members of the Screen Actors guild make their totally living as working actors...the others work occasionally and eventually leave the industry.
