Wall Street Journal:

The recent killings of a U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum guard and a Kansas abortion doctor came a few months after the Federal Bureau of Investigation stepped up efforts to pre-empt violence committed by just such political extremists working alone.

Did the FBI report it to the administration? Would it have mattered?

Remember how the January 2001 Clarke AQ memo spurred the Bush cabal into action--not!

As far as I know , convicted felons do not have the right to own or have guns. Why , if they were tracking him did they allow him to have a gun?

One has the lone wolves like this fellow and the "packs of wolves" like the case out of Arizona where the leader of a minute men organization is arrested with minute men members for double homicide of a Hispanic father and his 9 year old daughter, wounding of the mother, and one member is caught in Kingman, Arizona which is interesting since that is where Timothy McVeigh & his friend had their bunker and did their pre-Oklahoma City bombing planning! I am still amazed not one peep on this story outside Arizona in national media yet!

Lucky for us, the FBI is prosecuting anti-war protesters under domestic terrorism laws, investing heavily in infiltration and entrapment of environmental and anti-nuclear would-be terrorists. As for those "lone wolf" violent extremists, tracking is the name of the game. Weird.

We are Americans first, what we believe is second. Period. If you don't like the way things are, work really hard, go to school, and change things. That's what makes this country so great. But we are losing that sense of what it means to be free; of all that was sacrificed on all sides, so that this experiment in democracy might have a home. I am very saddened to see even on these pages, the language of intolerance. hatred and fear. We must fight for our freedom once more. And we must fight in a way that is not violent. Yes, we must defend ourselves when called upon. But in order for any real change to be lasting, it must be through peaceful ways. If we have to ram our ideas forward, then maybe they weren't very good ideas. read more on my blog http://republicindrag.blogspot.com/ and leave intelligent comments please.

libs definition(s)

'rightwing extremist' = bad

muslim terrorist = not bad

National security officials have long feared the emergence of a new breed of American militants who would raise little suspicion as they move in and out of the country carrying out the aims of terrorist groups like al-Qaida.

Tiller should have obtained a concealed carry license and packed heat...you are responsible for your own safety and that of your family, no one else...

Sorry, but the FBI received thousands of similar complaints every day and simply does not have manpower to track all of them. They are not a personal protective service.

Well, this is BS. If they had been doing more than "tracking" which I think means accepting calls from potential victims, they would have picked up Scott Roeder 24 hours before he assassinated Dr. Tiller. Instead, they told the doctor of a clinic in KC he had just vandalized that they could not do anything more than present the evidence to a grand jury. They would have known Scott Roeder had actually been to Dr. Tiller's church a couple of times recently before the day he shot him...that should have been a pretty good clue something was going to go down. They are trying to cover their tracks, but the fact is, all they did was accept phone calls and write notes of what was being told to them. Their lack of real investigation is quite apparent...at least in the KC office based on what our local papers have revealed.

We need more than the FBI tracking these loons. We need people to report them. These extremists have not been quiet in telling people in their lives and online about their hatred and ill will. People need to stand up if they do not want more violence.

In the Von Bruner case everyone this guy knew, knew he was violent prone. If people start preparing and start threatening, folk need to step up and report it.

I agree 100%... I see a post below that insinuates this will be used as an excuse to "spy" on everybody... But everybody knows Bush/Cheney did so routinely, on everybody.

The fact is, it is impossible to watch everyone, and so therefore it is the responsibility of the citizens to report suspect people with criminal ideology.

You would report a drunk driver careening all over to road I would hope.

The man had a web site and posted on other web sites. Probably anyone who had 3 minutes worth of contact with him knew of his views.

Until someone actually says, "I'm going to..." however, it's "all talk."

The name was von Brunn and if he was being tracked it wasn't very close. The guy who is charged with killing Dr. Tiller was reported twice in the two weeks before he allegedly shot the Doctor. If reporting someone twice in two weeks doesn't get the FBI to cat it is hard to see what other people reporting things would do.

Good point. You can can't get official action unless there is a verifiable threat to do something specific or a verifable action.
