Orrin Hatch

Deseret News:

U.S. Sens. Orrin Hatch and Bob Bennett, both R-Utah, got polite receptions Saturday at the state GOP convention, but both also recognized that some of the rank-and-file delegates weren't pleased with them.

Hatch, at one point in his speech, appeared upset when some delegates applauded as a way of blaming national Republicans, himself included, for the deficit and other problems of the Bush years.

"Don't you believe that B.S.," Hatch said loudly. But some of the 1,800 delegates clearly did.

That Hatch & Bennett better run. At this stage of the game, the RNC would resort to cannibalism.

Yeah, I remember Hatch, and Bennett too, standing up and loudly proclaiming their opposition to the gross excesses of the Bush administration - oh wait, no I don't. I don't even recall the Democrats opposing Bush on very much of anything. To say otherwise is indeed B.S.

Sorry, should have read: Republicans should start blaming someone other than Bush for their problems. (They need to blame themselves and their belief in conservatism)

Republicans better stop blaming someone other than Bush for their problems. They elected him TWICE! They point at him while 4 fingers point at themselves. They got what they wanted: conservatism. They bought the whole circus. They still haven't realized that conservatism only works on paper - just like their cutesy slogans. Woe to us all if we forget what conservatism has done to our country.

There are a large number of "Open-Minded" people who know the facts in Utah!

Hatch is connected at the HIP with BIG MONEY and they know it!

Hatch's top Donors are a WHOSE WHO of Insurance and Health Care Providers! Just look at this list of the top Dozen Donors dominated by Insurance and Big Pharma:
[Source OPENSECRETS.ORG]

Blue Cross/Blue Shield $66,550
GlaxoSmithKline $61,498
Pfizer Inc $61,200
AT&T Inc $58,499
AFLAC Inc $56,560
Schering-Plough Corp $52,500
HEALTHSOUTH Corp $52,005
Bear Stearns $48,450
Xango LLC $48,200
Eli Lilly & Co $45,800
Amgen Inc $45,400
Herbalife $44,750

Hatch's Top two Industry Groups contributing to his Campaigns are:

Finance, Insurance & Real Estate $2,371,643
Health $2,322,244

Utah knows this and finds it offensive that he is against single-payer - Money Talks:

Medicare = 2.1% Administrative Fees
Insurnace Companies = 30% Administrative Fees

1,500% More Admin costs with Insurance Companies!

I am a former 'resident' of 'The Big Backward Land', having escaped the clutches of the intense and oppressive intellectual vacuum that is the 'Zion Curtain' , I applaud your efforts to expose 'Oral' Hatch and his moneysucking leeches who have successfully snowed their constituency for 30-plus years.

It should also be acknowledged in your post the lack of division between the LDS Church and The State Capitol in their politics and lawmaking both locally and nationally.

Zbigniew Brzezinski said not long ago, and I saw it ...

"We have a system of legalized bribery...!"

Who am I to argue with Zbigniew Brzezinski...?

"Open minded" Now that is a hoot. Or an oxymoron. There are not enought "heathens" or "gentiles" in that state to cause a problem. The day they are open minded will be the day ....you can finish the sentence.

The GOP still supports bu sh/cheeny policies and would repeat them all in a heartbeat.

Why do you think they can't get unstuck and move on with a new agenda?
They don't have one.

I cannot believe that even Utah - not exactly the most enlightened state - keeps electing this twit. Orin baby, why don't you retire and take your whiny voice and bad attitudes to a mountain cabin and go fishing or something. Isn't it your state that proudly touts selling a sniper rifle called the "Obama rifle"? You and the people who elect you should be ashamed.

Ignorance is bliss, and shepherding the masses is a family value in the 'Zion Curtain'. Hence, why I don't live there anymore. To see that type of sociopathic allegiance up close and personal I can tell you it is mortifying. It does exist, and in a very large scope and form...

Goes to prove that George Orwell was not completely off about its existence in everyday life among particular groups.

During the Golden Bush years:
National Debt went from $5 trillion to $10 trillion; mostly from the wars. This is pre-bank bailout.
Interest on the Debt went from third largest budget line item to largest budget line item.
Bush left with $1 trillion yearly deficit.
Bush left us with 2 unfinished wars.
Bush deregulated oil markets helping to devastate the economy.

Just to show I'm not 100% biased against Hatch and Bush...Bush did one good thing...he created the largest marine sanctuary in the world.

The GOP can't decide on what their problem is let alone the solution. Their basic concept is better PR. Convincing the public they want something they clearly no longer want. As long as the GOP base is made op of bigoted, anti-science, warmongers, they will fail. We know they will always be the party of corporate owners. That's a given.

I wish Utah would run an actual democrat. Not a Dino like Mathison - The majority of Salt Lake county votes Democrat. But, history will show they'll back down, and continue to let the republicans run this state. No b alls in from the Utah Dems.

Hatch - Out
Bennett - Out

Both are rich old men , completely out of touch with the needs of Utah, or the country.
Bennett promised to run for 2 terms only, now he wants his 4th. The guy is 80 years old! If you're too old to drive a car, you're to old to be a senator for life. Retire already.
