Dick Cheney Responds To Panetta: I Hope He Was "Misquoted"

CIA Director Leon Panetta caused a stir this weekend, when New Yorker reporter Jane Mayer quoted him saying former VP Dick Cheney almost seems to want another terrorist attack. Cheney has responded, saying he hopes Panetta was misquoted.

"I hope my old friend Leon was misquoted," said Cheney in a terse statement. "The important thing is whether or not the Obama administration will continue the policies that have kept us safe for the last eight years."

Panetta had said of Cheney: "I think he smells some blood in the water on the national-security issue. It's almost, a little bit, gallows politics. When you read behind it, it's almost as if he's wishing that this country would be attacked again, in order to make his point. I think that's dangerous politics."

Following this from outside US, I have to say I am getting quite frustrated at your countrys inability to deal with crimes committed while holding a high office. These thugs were elected officials, public servants meant to work for the good of the people(as corny as it may sound after what actually happened). Instead they shamelessly pushed their own agendas of war-profiteering, resource domination and other machiavellist policies. The law seemingly never entered their computation and neither did ethics. Now that their see-no-wrong ignorant misinformed supporter base is shrinking, it is time to hold them accountable. Until that happens I and many more will consider the US to be a lawless country, or a "rogue state" within liberal democracies.

This is not the way to take on Cheney. Just like Letterman's joke was not the way to take on Palin.
I give Panetta credit for saying what many believe: the GOP hopes/needs/wants a terrorist attack on US soil for their "I told you so" moment.
I take back that credit for Panetta apologizing.
Will there be an apology to Nancy Pelosi for Panetta's comments towards her claim she was mislead by CIA?
The way to take on Cheney is to look at facts not in dispute: starting with 9/11 happening on his watch after he was told on 8/6/01 OBL was coming and continuing with flawed Iraq policy.
Yes, Cheney will deny, but weak/lazy Dems must keep repeating truths the way strong/agressive Reps keep repeating lies. Unfortunately, BO wants to move forward.

Dems do so at their own peril because not answering back Cheney's (and others) charges means that, when the attack does come, it will be BOs fault and Reps and Cheney will come out shining saying "I told you so."

Cheney was scared witless on 9/11, scared to the point of confiscating everyone's nail clippers. The terror is in his heart and he denies it by projecting outside of himself.
