Artie Lange

In the first episode, Joe Buck become the butt of his own show's jokes.

Howard Stern regular Artie Lange "hijacked" Joe Buck Live, according to the New York Times' Richard Sandomir.

SEE UPDATE BELOW: HBO WON'T HAVE LANGE BACK!

When Buck, a Fox sportscaster who took over on HBO when Bob Costas signed with the MLB Network, announced that celebrity gossip site TMZ was his favorite website, Lange shot back: "Joe, TMZ is your favorite website? What's your second, suckingcock.com?"

In a move decried as homophobic, Lange then let his wrist fall limp, put on an accent, and said, "I'm on TMZ constantly, did you see what Angelina was wearing today? What the fuck, how about going to a sports website for Christ's sake?"

Lange even admitted to being a homophobe, to which Buck responded, "clearly."

"As a Giants fan, and a well-known homophobic," Lange said, "it's like a white trash gift from god that the fucking Cowboys have a quarterback whose last name rhymes with homo."

Lange then took it to Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo's girlfriend, Jessica Simpson.

"And he's dating a fat chick!" he said. "Jessica Simpson started out looking like Jessica Simpson, now she looks like Chris Farley from those Gap sketches."

Moments later, Lange started knocking Buck's hosting abilities.

"Good segue," Lange said, mocking Buck's attempt to move discussion forward. "You're a regular Bob Costas."

"I wanna be working construction by next Thursday, I hate show business," Lange said.

"You're on your way," Buck replied.

"So are you!" Lange shot back.

Later, as Buck attempted to rush Lange through a story about Buck's father, Lange said, "sorry to ruin your fucking great show."

"I appreciate the apology, because you have," Buck said.

Finally, near the end of the segment, Lange takes out a cigarette and an increasingly earnest Buck yelled at him not to light it.

"If you do that, sir! Sir, you cannot do that," Buck shouted.

"I won't light it," Lange said.

"You think I care about you smoking a cigarette after what you just laid out here?" Buck said, leading Lange to say, "Fuck it, let's do it bro" and light up. "No, don't, please!" Buck said.

"Say what you mean," Lange said back.

Update: HBO has said "never again" to Artie Lange.

The New York Post's Michael Starr reports that HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg has added Lange to his blacklist:

"He can go do as many Howard Stern shows as he likes . . but he will no longer appear on HBO Sports or 'Joe Buck Live,' " HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg told The Post yesterday.

"We don't have any interest in his world."...

"He wasn't who we thought he was," Greenburg said. "We thought we were going to have an entertaining and kind of comical look at sports and celebrity -- but we didn't expect the guy to hijack the segment for his own personal gain."

You misspelled de-evolution. On that note perhaps you're correct.

Artie made that show funny and interesting. People just aren't used to real honest opinion and have been so sterilized by politically correct sensitivity that we'ver fogotten what is funny. They told him to go off and even Joe Buck admits to telling him to 'let me have it'. It's HBO not CBS.

I thought his story about Joe's father randomly tying promos to the play on field was hilarious...

Im willing to bet that was the most entertaining episode of this soon to be defunct program.

What's next for this a-hole in his downward personal and "comedic" spiral, throwing his own feces at the audience? Wouldn't surprise me a bit. Nor would the fact that some number of his audience would think it's funny.

Artie Lange's shtick, is nothing new and hardly original, who has stolen the comedic stylings of Don Rickles.

...And is just as boring

Even the most obscene, disrespectful humor is amusing on some degenerative level if there is some truth to it. I mean, truth hurts, as is said. However, he just made up mean stuff about people. Stuff that actually applies to him. For example, Jessica Simpson isn't fat at all. But, Arte Lange is extremely huge. Ironically, Jessica Simpson has the character and class not to say prejudicial mean things about Lange or any person who is overweight. Lange talks down about the likes of TMZ. But, Lange is just like TMZ, making fun of people who are overweight or other dumb stuff. What a loser.

Artie is not using.

Without alcohol or drugs to tone him down, his anger is on the surface now. Now he has to deal with his problems. He's probably on the edge of a relapse, but he's not using.

I still think Jackie is better then Artie. I like Artie, but the heyday of Stern was when he had Jackie and Billy West in studio. Billy West could do any impression and you would hear Jackie laughing in the backround, while Fred was playing sounds every 5 seconds.

Ha ha. You're exactly right. Jackie Jokeman, Fred, and Billy West were the best. Throw in Robin and BabaBooey, and you had some great comedy.

This is the same HBO that shows Cat House (a show with prostitutes having sex on camera), Deadwood (a show that contains more instances of the F-Bomb than were ever spoken in the Wild West), and The Sopranos (rampant curse words in English and Italian, death, dismemberment, violence, rape, etc.)??

Hypocrites.

They just didn't have script control on this one.

It's not the language, it's the context.

Cat House is a show about PROSTITUTES.
Deadwood is a show about the WILD West.
The Sopranos was about MOBSTERS.

What you mentioned seeing on those shows is perfectly appropriate for those shows.

Joe Buck's show is supposed to be a chat show about sports.

Again, it's not the language, it's the context.

You both have a valid point. Still, Artie is pretty unpredictable, so booking him was a mistake if they wanted someone who'd stay on topic (and not verbally barbecue the host).

I'm not sure which is worse, Lange's bridge burner, HBO's politically correct cover, or Buck's weak-kneed control of his show. They should have booked Lange for Mahr's Real Time. Watch Artie try to pull that on someone who can rip him a new one with a one liner.

Pit bulls smell fear. Artie is a comic pit bull. Joe Buck is a shaking chihuahua.
