Weird Al Takes On Craigslist With A Little Help From The Doors (VIDEO)

Weird Al Yankovic is back with a single called "Craigslist" off an album due out next year. He mocks the Website, and those that can be found hocking wares on it. The single is an obvious homage to the Doors (Ray Manzarek was enlisted to play keyboard) but unlike most of Weird Al's previous work, it is not set to a specific song's preexisting tune, but rather an amalgam of several of them.

The technical term for creating a work in the style of someone else is "pastiche.­" If I recall correctly, every album of his includes at least one.

Well done video, but hiw much replayability will it have. Once is enough for me unlike "E-bay", "Nerdy", and "Amish Paradise" which were brilliant to listen to and watch each time. (OMG - I watch "Amish Paradise" just to crack up seeing Florence Hernderson and "Nerdy" makes me p/ee my pants everytime I see Wierd Al's get up!)

While the lyrics don't parody a specific song, the music (while reminiscent of many Doors' tunes), sure sounds most like "When the Music's Over" to me.

Dude...chi­ll. It's not specifically 20th Century Fox...it's an amalgam of lots of different Doors songs, including When the Music's Over, Soul Kitchen, 20th Century Fox and Light My Fire.

I will agree with you that it does have a 20th century fox elements, but after listening to Soul Kitchen and When the music is over, you can definitely hear those in the tune. Maybe even a little LA Woman too

Great stuff! man, this guy has always been the pintical of wacky fun. From the underappreciated mad-cap UHF to his vids. His Polka heavy live shows are great too. I saw him at the California state fair and he rocked!
