Oil is too cheap IMO. We will rue the day that we depended on cheap oil, when it's supply dwindles greatly, which will happen within 100 years.

and of course no one from the gov or even the white house is interested in looking into what is really driving the cost increases. Its as if Cheney and Bush were still in the white house.

Agree 100%.

Thanks for less than nothing, Mr. Obama.

Take back the trillions of $$$ given to the banks, who just sit on it and make it totally ineffective then start government incentive to create realistic industries that give employment and generate real productive income, some of which would hopefully be from exports.

Every other country, especially China and most of Europe have goverment incentives to protect it's industries. No matter what you call it it's a form of protectionism and its inevitable. We should stop being naive and take care of our own house. The only ones who win if we don't are the multinational corporations who don't care where they get their hand out.

This is a good thing....it will encourage conservation and new energy, reduce green house gases and prevent global warming, reduce cash for OPEC etc..

It looks like OPEC wants about $75 a barrel...high enough to pay their bills but not so high as to cause a rapid change in energy use.

President Obama should announce immediately that he will be releasing oil from the strategic reserve.

My bet is that would plunge the price of oil and catch the speculators short. Maybe even ruin some of them.

Keeping everything secret until the announcement of course.

Ok most of the things you list are total junk that do not really work. The Tubinator or versions of it, have been put on the market off an don since the 1940's. Halo plugs, are cute, but no real increase of mileage. And Im sorry, its just physically impossible to increase horsepower, without increasing fuel consumption. The more power the more juice is needed to feed it. Increase airflow with something like a K&N, the computer will increase the fuel input to match. You can make an engine more efficient , or you can make it more powerful. But you cant get both.

If science cant prove to you that these things are bogus, then just ask yourself, if they can really do what they claim, why dont companies with huge fleets of vehicles use them? UPS, FedEx and so on? You would think every large fleet company in the world would be using these. But they dont, because these things dont do diddly squat. Keep your tires inflated, keep your foot out of it, learn to drive properly, and maybe get a scangauge 2 in your car so you can see in real time just what your driving is doing to your mileage. That will do more than any of these things you list, and it will help you trouble shoot whats wrong with your car when its not running correctly. All this snake oil and shinny junk wont do nearly as much as learning to drive will. I wish they would install round abouts everywhere and remove stoplights and signs. Just think of the savings in fuel and traffic jams that would do if you didnt have to stop and go and sit all the time. Then again it would lesson traffic tickets and income for the local gov. So they will never do it.

Tis high time to nationalize all domestic oil production and seize the refineries.

Eight dollar per gallon in your near future and $10 when these new high mileage vehicles hit the road.

Why feed the toads any longer? They made their bucks.

How exactly would that work? I suppose you just seize private property and void all contracts, right? Would the government then reimburse the oil companies, suppliers, contractors, royalty owners, pension holders, etc the billions and billions of $$$ invested in the oil industry in order to bring you gasoline which you bitch about as being too expensive? Could you expand just a tad on your novel idea?

This is a scam people, every summer gas prices rise and then go down. Every winter natural gas prices rise, then go down in the summer. It's price gouging at its best!

In other words the price of gasoline is spiking because of speculation.

In all the reports on GM or Chrysler I have never heard anyone explain that the auto industry crashed because of the rise in the price of gasoline. A rise driven by speculation by the same pukes who tanked the world economy.

i did see in one place that Merril or CitBank or one of the largest investment banks, just happens to be the 4 largest oil company in America. With their own tank farms.

Strictly for speculation. No retail outlets.

Once again these people are willing to destroy any recovery of the world economy with their short term speculation in oil.

Despicable.

We saw $4.25 last August. The excuses we're given everyday as to why, all horse sh*t of course.
Then magically the pump prices began to fall before Christmas and the elections,....SHOCKER!
Now they're gradually $0.20 per week rising, and the excuses are back.

WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE?

Some people need SUV's to haul things around. It would be nice if they would offer more Hybrid SUVs.

Very very few people need those behemoths to haul trailers.

I know because many of my friends have them. Folks who are otherwise sensible people.'ll bet not 1 in 20 of those crew cab pickups ever haul a horse or a cow.

Yeah they do have hybrid suvs, but like most cars these days, no one can really afford them who needs them.

trouble is, it will encourage bad,bad ideas like oil shale development.

I wouldn't mind paying a fair market price for gasoline. I wouldn't mind paying more gasoline taxes if i thought the money was going somewhere worth while like health care.that isn't what is happening. I

t is, as the article mentions in the last paragraph, pure speculation.
