New York Times:

A substantial majority of Americans say President Obama has not developed a strategy to deal with the budget deficit, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll, which also found that support for his plans to overhaul health care, rescue the auto industry and close the prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, falls well below his job approval ratings.

He squandered his mandate for change, steered our ship of state and crashed it upon the rocks of Goldman Sachs, they destroyed America's chances and hope for change and a fair playing field...!

Simple as that...

Take back the trillions of $$$ given to the banks, who just sit on it and make it totally ineffective then start government incentive to create realistic industries that give employment and generate real productive income, some of which would hopefully be from exports.

Every other country, especially China and most of Europe have goverment incentives to protect it's industries. No matter what you call it it's a form of protectionism and its inevitable. We should stop being naive and take care of our own house. The only ones who win if we don't are the multinational corporations who don't care where they get their hand out.

The most frustrating part of this is that MSNBC and others are pushing this poll as an indication that Obama is on the wrong track, without any mention that Americans need to have more realistic expectations. Furthermore, the president cannot get this done by himself. Look at all the resistance he is getting on healthcare from his own party.

It looks like Obama needs to use the bully pulpit to get some of these people in line. It is clear the congress and the senate still do not understand the magnitude of the problems that we need to address, and do so now. If they are allowed to engage in their typically behavior of kicking problems down the road, we are in big trouble.

That said, I do have some concerns this stimulus plan is being used as a mini gold rush by local politicians. The thought of our children being in debt for years to come, so that some connected businesses and politicians can feather their pockets is very disconcerting.

You mean to say that Pres. Obama has been in office around 6 months and hasn't fixed every single economic issue?!?!?

This survey is further proof that the American people have absolutely 0 patience and 0 understanding of economic matters.

Obama faces not just a financial collapse and the worst economy since the great depression.

He faces Americans who since Reagan debuted have been taught we can have it all -- the world's grandest military, cushy social programs so our parents don't have to live with us when they get old, shiny roads and soaring bridges, cheap mortgages and government backed savings accounts -- and tax cuts, too.

We've been on a borrowing binge ever since, though not fast enough to keep our country from starting to fall apart right under our feet. We've led our private lives the same way.

He's got to convince us we can't have it all and tax cuts, too. We may end up hating him.

Well, gee, do you think? He's surrounded by the same economists from the last three presidential administrations, and the Fed, the real controller of the economy, has not changed its monetary policy in decades. Is there any escape from this corporatist oligarchy?

Survey results are irrelevant.

To include "all Americans" including Republicans in the survey makes this laughable.

If the NYT/CBS were interested in measuring public sentiment on this issue, they should have restricted the survey to qualified Obama voters.

Isn't it ironic that five months is a determining period for Obama dealing with all of the garbage handed to him by Bush and Cheney. But when it comes to 9/11 the Republicans cry that Bush can't be held responsible for being up to speed in eight months on the threat posed by Al Queda. Eight is greater than five! (By the way, both measures are stupid for a new administration, response and outcomes should be how we judge the response)

We are a nation that needs immediate gratification - what got us into trouble and our inability to step back and allow this administration to initiate policies and see where we go.

Any poll in the NYT/CBS is slanted toward Obama. They took a poll and at the end say the GOP has 28% approval. Last time I looked liberals were in charge of all houses so of course the GOP is going to play a smaller role. Tell Obummer to quit whining and go to work and get off TV.

Obama is proving to be unable to lead

All of these items would have tanked regardless of who was elected. The fact that the party of NO is still whining because they lost INSTEAD of getting to work to fix the problems THEY cause, is a much much bigger issue then any you listed.
I believe that Obama is doing the best he can given the wimpy, greedy and self absorbed personnel he has to work with in congress and is the reason things keep being put off or not being what is best for the American people.
Maybe it is time to get some of the 'old timers' out of Congress and get some new blood in there that have America first instead of themselves.

You're right. It is time to get rid of the Barney Franks and Chris Dodds. They are the ones who got us in this mess. They are the ones who can destroy our party with their greed. We need new blood before the Republicans seize back power.

you can't believe in cbs/nyt news poll because they are still mad about not interviewing obama since he gave brian williams permission.cbs never favored obama right anyway and it's only been 5 months since has been in office.what kills me is that bush had controlled for 8 years, polls numbers were going down last year and no conserative or independent didn't say a damn word.president obama is trying to the best that he can so give him time and credit.hell, bush let this country go down since raising lower taxes on the rich and screwed the finanical mess.obama will get his numbers up again.it's time to get on the democrats in both houses to start acting like giants instead being quiet on the sideline(p********).republicans only care about winning the white house back and congress.i think that both polls from nbc and cbs were taken by majority republicans but a few democrats and a few independents too.remember chuck todd was wrong during the primary and general election saying that president obama wasn't leading in virginia, florida, ohio, penn, indiana, and michigan too.don't belive polls;just give president obama a chane to succeed in office.he needs to stay away from pelosi and reid because they are ruining his agenda and rahm needs to step up his game or get out now!

As Letterman noted about his dreadful Palin joke, it's not about intention, it's about perception. Obama campaigned on great intentions, although it's only been, as his defenders claim, "5 months", his perception is suffering. He's backtracked and lied about too many campaign promises too soon. Although the banks and the CEOs so far seem to be doing okay, out here on Main Street and in the "Heartland" people are still suffering. Jobs are going "poof". He's thrown "the gays" under the bus "triangulating" on DOMA, DADT, ENDA. Then there's lack of real support for EFCA. Then there's the matter of opposing a truth commission, or classifying WH visitor logs and a host of other things he and his supporters chastised and opposed Bush on. It seems Obama is more concerned with playing nice with the GOP than supporting his base, that supported him. Right now, the perception Obama is projecting stinks. Except for a few hundred bucks in a "stimulus" check, I'm no better off now than I was 6 months ago. I thought we would get a wildcat in the WH who would get things done, with or without the GOP, from day one. What I see is a celebrity politician who wants to be all things to all people. Very poor perception, I'd say.Very lousy leader, too, so far. But he speaks well.

"gays are getting on folks nerves too." Go vote Republican. But first, learn to capitalize first letter of every sentence.

Well stated. Obama has made choices and they have been WRONG on domestic issues. Soon his choices on foreign policy will be nothing as the GOP, foreign leaders, and the conservative Dems will throw him overboard. He was correct that the American folks would vote for him but, he is wrong to think we will do it again with his "popularity" the only inspiration.

Obama lost my vote when he refused to go after the torture regime and chose to outsource torture instead. For those of you that love him - feel free. You can blame his one term on BUSH forever if it makes you feel good. Obama has failed my leadership tests and allowed his story to be written by the conservatives of the both parties. He had the mandate and he chose not to use it. The pols smell blood in the political waters.
