Billy Joel's split from wife Katie came as no surprise to Alexa Ray Joel, the music man's 23-year-old daughter with Christie Brinkley.

"I have a pretty good woman's intuition, so I could tell," Alexa told PEOPLE at the sixth annual Wayuu Taya Foundation Gala at the Stephan Weiss Studio in New York City Wednesday night. "I know my dad very well."

I'm sure some beautiful, older woman someone like Jill Biden would love him, but he insists on dating these women that only give him the time of day because of his money. Really? Are you as confident making sweeping generalizations about what people are going to do because of their race, gender, sexual orientation or body type as you are making them about people because of their age? How is ageism any different from racism or sexism, exactly?

My fiancee and I are 25 years apart in age, and we are absolutely, blissfully happy together, as we have been for the last four years. Should I break up with her now before we tie the knot, based on the wisdom of your observation?

It's not okay to use "the N word" or otherwise disparage people of color, and it's not okay to make grossly prejudicial comments about women or LGBTs. But for some reason it's okay to slander older men with younger wives as "lechers" or "cradle robbers" and older women with younger husbands as "cougars."

Why? Why is that okay?

Well said. A lot of the people who comment here have an obvious bias bordering on disgust against older people. It could be they themselves are deathly afraid of growing old.

Not sure how much it has to do with ageism in relation to to couples where there is a large age gap. Older people do face some discrimination, especially the elderly. However, targets of racism, homophobia, and misogyny face issues experience disparagement, prejudice and -isms for most--if not all--of their lives, at the very least, and murder at the most.

Unfortunately, there ARE lecherous older men and women who are trying to regain their youth, boost their egos, stave off the fear of death by dating someone young enough to be their child or grandchild.

I know of one couple who have a 30 year age difference. They are deeply in love and no one I know of questions it. They have been together for 7 years. But, is the ageism you speak of in relation to large age gaps in relationships tantamount to racism, misogyny, an homophobia.... I am not sure it is.
