I doubt they'll put a severely injured 88 year old man in prison. That is, if he survives (doubful.) As much as I deeply loathe this individual, I firmly believe that justice shouldn't be revenge but...justice. That's why I'm against capital punishment, even for people whom I'd really love to see d.ead and no longer a burden for society.

The moral bar is pretty long BUT once it's breached in one area it's very common for other areas to follow suit. Racism like pornography, alcoholism, drug use etc. are ALL anti social behaviors that tend to group together.
It's like connect the dots....when you're done you pretty much have the James Von Brunn's of the world and they tend to come in a fairly familiar package. Familiar to EACH of us. The problem is most of us don't want to see what looks like our favorite uncle/aunt, or next door neighbor, or even our brother/father/sister/mother...it's what's under our noses that we should be worried about.
Von Brunn's family tolerated him for decades. No one ever called the authorities on him...they didn't look further than how he effected THEIR family.
Racists come in all sizes and colors and religious sects...and I will bet each one of us is in contact with a true racist every day.
