nytimes.com:

THE grass-roots protests that have engulfed Iran since its presidential election last week have grabbed America's attention and captured headlines -- unfortunately, so has the clamor from neoconservatives urging President Obama to denounce the voting as a sham and insert ourselves directly in Iran's unrest.

If this was September, 1938, would John Kerry be urging McCain and others to listen to Herr Hitler?
09:47 AM on 06/25/2009
He said listen to the people and the demonstrators, not the leaders.

That is why I voted for you in 2004. It's nice to hear intelligent men speak.

Of course Kerry is right.

"this is an Iranian moment, not an American one"

But for the neocons, their proxies and their cheerleaders, its all about themselves.

The guy who said talk softly and keep the other guy guessing what is in your hand (my version) was a republican? Belligerent chatter reduces one's effectiveness. Your actions must be heavier than your words. Never mind TV.

John McCain that is.

John Kerry has the same swoopy hairdo as my grandmother. How does he get that effect?
Does he sit under a hair-dryer?

The rethugs continue to FAIL TO UNDERSTAND when they should engage in partisan politics and when not to.

This is an Iranian problem, and the Iranians are dealing with their OWN problem quite well on their OWN ............... John Kerry's paper was sopt on as to why there should be NO interference into the Iran elections by the US or by any other country .

The last thing the Iranians (in addition to the US and the world) needs, is for Ahmadinejad to find a reason to use the US as an excuse to distract from and to derail what is now happening in Iran. As Kerry pointed out, all Ahmadinejad would need to do, is to "marry" the 1953 US interference into the Iranian elections to any 2009 US interference, and he would then get the upper hand, and use and US interference in a successful political propaganda run.

The rethugs themselves engaged in a FRAUDULENT NON-DEMOCRATIC election in 2000................ AND THE ENTIRE WORLD KNEW THAT THE ELECTION WAS A FRAUD.

In 2000, the rethugs would have been the first to decry ANY INTERFERENCE from the rest of the world into their fraudulent election .............. But yet they do not hold the US and the world to the same rules when it comes to NOT interfering in the Iran elections.

All this noise from the rethugs is nothing but CHEAP POLITRICKS.

The President, John Kerry are correct....this has to come from them......and even if we have a change in leadership....It will still be difficult because the Supreme leader is the one in charge.....We have to tread carefully....and our President is doing it right.....Conservatives, McCain are WRONG

The same John McCain who stated publicly that every American was a Georgian when Russia smacked them down after they invaded Ossetia. McCain really ought to keep his trap shut, he's hardly intelligent enough to comprehend foreign policy/affairs though he may think he is.

"Hi, I'm John Kerry. I threw away your votes in 2004. And now, I'm irrelevant. So I look for topics that are hot to speak about hoping to catch some media time."

The U.S. is hardly the best voice on democracy and fair elections. We still have not resolved the senatorial race in MN after six months. It is a standard GOP meme that the U.S. is superior and that Democracy (as we define it) should be imposed on the world, by force if necessary. President Obama is right on his approach to Iran and its election outcome. We are in no position to interfere in yet another country's government. We have our hands full with Iraq and Afghanistan and our previous President's imperial desire to bring our brand of Democracy to the Middle East by force. McCain needs to retire. He is bringing shame on himself and the State of Arizona.

The Republicans believe that all speeches and all political commentary has to appeal only to its base. During the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars George Bush never addressed the people of those countries directly. Everything said was to garner a positive reaction from the Talibangecal Conservatives of the former Slave States.

Now they are trying to shame Obama into making the Iranian leadership sniff his armpits.
In order to prove what ?
I wonder.

Those Iranians who are protesting are not asking the United States or its president to give out shout-outs. The Iranians saw how we act on liberating repressed, depressed people. (Iraq) The US interferring with their protest would give it a western feel and validate Ahmadinejad's claim of western influence.
