William Shatner

William Shatner sat down with Conan on "The Tonight Show," and ended up flipping off the host on Wednesday night.

After a few oddball stories about getting felt up by airport security and once getting pulled over while speeding when wearing his Captain Kirk uniform, Shatner manually tried and failed to manipulate his fingers into the classic 'Star Trek' greeting.

Conan made fun of his inability to do it, and then started plugging Shatner's books and talk show before saying goodbye.

As Conan offered a final, perfect Vulcan hand salute to Shatner, Shatner flipped him off.

I never liked Shatner until he finally realized that he was a ham and decided to just go with it.

Shatner's record "Has-Been" with Ben Folds from a few years ago is pretty frickin' great.

That was really entertaining. I love priceline commercials, especially the "mamby pamby" line.
Shatner's funny.

There is no one alive like Shatner. He is not just an actor, but a performer, who is NEVER dull. He might be odd, he might be uncomfortable, but he's like a force of nature that cannot be ignored. If he is on stage with a burning giraffe, you'd never notice the fire.

Forget the burning giraffe, they need to put him on stage with a blue alien woman. (Or was it green?)

Hmmm...maybe you're referring to the green alien woman who floated outside the spaceship while calling to Dr. Smith on Lost In Space? She was peering into the spaceship windows calling, "Doctor Smiiiithhhh....Doctor Smiiiiitttthhh..." I had nightmares for months after watching that show, since the window in my parents bedroom was exactly like the window on the spaceship. The alien woman's voice creeped me out so bad. But not as badly as having nightmares after catching a glimpse of the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Quasimodo's face scared the bejesus out of me. And I swear I woke up one night and imagined I saw Boris Karloff's Frankenstein standing in my bedroom doorway in the dark. With his arms outstretched for me, making guttural noises. I still can't believe my parents let me watch horror movies when I was little. You can't distinguish reality from fiction! Cripes!!

Yes, and as a result, has had a 40 year career in show-biz. Do you know what a feat that is in and of itself?

The Comedy Central Roast of William Shatner(nee, James T Kirk, TJ Hooker, Denny Crane) was an outrageous classic! Anyone remember the flop "Barbary Coast?" How about "Twilight Zone" classic, "Terror at 20,000 Feet?" Yup. William Shatner. An all-time TV Hall of Famer.

Why would you make such a sweeping prejudgment? Have you actually examined any of his works? Not everyone will like his style, but the man is a surprisingly decent writer of both fiction and non-fiction. If you examine the books and choose not to buy them, so be it. But hasty judgments of this sort do not build character and make no useful observation.

William Shatner has had an amazing career because he is quite talented. I think Conan is really starting
to pull the show together.
