I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Jon Stewart

Jon Stewart devoted two segments last night to Republican claims that their plight is akin to that of Iranians protesting a rigged election.

Earlier this week Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.) tweeted:

"Iranian twitter activity similar to what we did in House last year when Republicans were shut down in the House."

John Culberson (R-Tex.) did the same, referencing an appropriations bill debate:

"Oppressed minorities includeHouseRepubs: We are using social media to expose repression such as last night's D clampdown shutting off amends"

And David Dreier (R-Calif.) (who apparently doesn't know that Twitter is the place to make inappropriate analogies) said out loud:

"I wonder if there isn't more freedom on the streets of Tehran right now than we are seeing here."

Ah yes, demonstrations that have left dozens dead fighting against an oppressive regime are very much like your fight against Democrats ending a debate on spending at 9p.

After shedding a few crocodile tears for the House Republicans, Stewart threw to Wyatt Cenac who is embedded with the Republican resistance in DC, and thinks they have a shot at a serious uprising.

Although I hate the c--p Repubs are spewing about Iran, I trust Stewart's political commentary as much as I would Paris Hilton. Who cares?

You can't make this stuff up. It's too bad that Barry Goldwater and the old libertarian type GOP folks aren't around to see how low this party has sunk.

It's getting to the point where making fun of republicans is a little like making fun of mentally handicapped people. It's a little too easy and doesn't feel that good. Even debating them has become as easy as simply pointing out scientific information, historical facts, and running video clips of what they themselves have said in the past to point out that they contradict known facts or even contradict themselves. This is because the difference between the democrats and the republicans is increasingly becoming less ideological and simply just intellectual.

Nobody can make this stuff up! The Republican party has really started to show themselves for the childish and immature bulllies that they really are with the absurd dialogue that keeps popping up from their side. Just put a microphone or keyboard in front of them, they will ultimately hang themselves.

Sometimes I start to feel sorry for the GOP. The party is such a hot mess, and every time one of their recognized 'leaders' steps in front of a microphone, they implode into a new hot mess of bigotry, fear-mongering, faux anger, and even faux-er concern for average citizens. I'm just waiting for their new uniforms to come out; knee-length white surcoats with big red crosses on the chest. "Down with the Infidels! Death to anyone who doesn't agree with us!"

If a new moderate conservative party emerges in response to the GOP's determination to setup their Crusaders' camp on the far fringes of the Evangelical Right, the GOP is history. Indeed, it's like they're actively engineering their own destruction. Weird.

Reptilicons are laughable. By their logic teenage girls were the first to make sizeable protests of import when they compalined about not getting Hannah Montana tickets.

And Dreir's statement...Gosh! More freedom in the streets of Tehran??? Are Reptilicons going to go into exilein Iran where they'd have more feedom? Are they claiming that they aren't getting onto TV? Radio? Look at how many Republicans infest the Sunday talk shows today spewing their nonsense.

Censored????

Heck! They weren't regularly compelled to hold their protests in wire cages miles away from the Presidents motorcade or Republican Convention sites as protestors of Bush were compelled to do. It's not that they don't have the resources...it's that despite these no one believes their crap anymore.

What crybabies! And they demean the Iranians out in the streets and getting arrested by the hundreds with their self-serving whining, as well.

These guys are lunatics who are so out of touch with what's happenng in the world it's pathetic.

maybe liberals shouldn't be so smug and ask themselves why more cons than libs supported the protestors in Iran, instead of churning up shades of 53?

Wow. Just last November we had millions of conservatives supporting a guy who joked about bomb bomb bombing Iran, and now these folks are caring about Iranians as actual people. Now THAT's change! Obama has performed a miracle!

...Because Liberals do not want to win the battle and lose the war...the war against nukes that are in the hand of the Imams whose words inspire "Death to America!" We now have a President who read The Art of War and understood it! OMG, we do have to improve our educational standard or else we'll be "out-thought" and "out-strategized" back to the 7th century!!!

The only thing I am afraid of is the republican party winning the presidency...the real minorities in this country will be opressed. Laws will be changed to make it difficult for anyone of miniority status to become president again and you know the G.O.P is very capable of doing this.If they can lie about things..they can twrist things to suite their own needs

How exactly would they accomplish you paranoid fantasy using any sort of language that wouldn't run afoul of previous amendments and rulings? What would they change in the constitution, no one with kinky hair or certain skin tones may be a president?

How did Bush circumvent the FISA laws? How did they get Congress to allow violations of the 4th amendment? Don't be stupid! The Repubs got just about everything they wanted and Bush certainly got what he wanted when he was Pres. If they want to pass a law where only STUPID(read Repubiclan) white men can be President then they'll find a way to do it.

Well, let's not get that dramatic! I agree that the republican party has it's faults, but so do all humans. I'm not a republican, i'm just saying that it's unnecessary to treat them all like the devil reincarnated. Also, the definition of a conservative/republican is that they follow the constitution, so I doubt that they would pass laws that so blatently went against the constitution (but it has been known to happen! a.k.a. patriot act) We all have to remember, if we don't want stereotypes used we shouldn't be handing them out.
With all due respect,

I record Jon every week night he is on and watch in the moring as I get ready for work. That way I go out the door laughing. I believe Jon to be a thoughtful & compassionate man so I do hope he will be careful of his clips from Iran that are funny except not now while many are losing their lives standing up for what they believe in. I watched the bit about Iran being evil and it was funny becasue the people he show of course weren't. I just think the timing is wrong to continue to show this segment. Overall, I think Jon is the only really honest newsman out there even if he call it faux news, it's really isn't to the viewers, we love the truth.

Jon Stewart rules. He is amazing. He shows how amazingly inane and childish the Republicans are. For grown up, they are amazingly immature on twitter. Has twitter infantalized them?

This was sooooooooo amazing.

Maybe the rethugs are just setting the stage for Mitt Romney 2012, so that he may appear like the great uniter and the voice of reason (in comparison). Or... I dunno... maybe they really are that brazen. But what are the implications of that? It's still the second most powerful party in the most powerful country in the world. Dammit, Republicans, please get a grip!

(uh, honestly, Mitt does not REALLY stand a chance---NOT REALLY when fully analyzed , he coes up really short...he'd do better opting for some sort of significant Cabinet position..Now if you want to glance, to see who really IS trying to prance himself into a proper positioning, Newtie G's former (likely still) protege, JOE SCARBOUROUGH...really, take a serious look and see the set up being played pout and has some serious backers--quite "quiet" at the moment, but configuring just how to successfully "sell" him...has the MJ show platform(national audience, coservative racounter supreme and NOT over OVER the top so "appears" just moderate enough, the present book tour and great sponsor...GE/MSNBC who figure worth backing investment for future considerationals/etc.......Watch as he is further "rolled out"....(and Yeah, Newtie is great as tacitician and KNOWS he himself stand nil chance, but is a pompous place holder in the meantime helping to drown out OTHERS...Mitt, Sara, Pawlenty and etc...too bad ENsign screwed up, had shot of VP at least !!)

Unless Pres. Obama really messes up I don't seriously believe anybody will vote for a Republican because the taste is still so bad from eight years of bad everything. I think people will have a taste for a true progressive under a Green or Independent flag though. Obama and the Dems are really starting to tick people off because of their cowing to corporate interests and forgetting about the people. If a good independent with progressive credentials were to run against Obama, they would stand a pretty good chance of winning and certainly better chance than a Republican.

Oh, Yea, I've seen signs that Scar is positioning himself to take a bigger role on the National Stage. He's trying to define himself as a "true conservative," rather than a neo-con and is really milking the book tour. Newt is a good surrogate for him and there will be others. Maybe prospects of the top job will pry his family out of FL.
