I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Witness the new and improved Timothy Geithner! As DealBreaker put it earlier today, the Treasury Secretary has arrived. He's been everywhere lately, including a marathon session in front of Congress and an appearance on Jim Lehrer just in the last few days. And he's showing none of the cringe-worthy stiffness he had when he took over in February.

As you'll see below, his first press conference was just about as awful as it gets. Here's how the New York Times described it:

"Initial reviews for the man and his plan were not good, however. Stock markets slid through the day, perhaps spurred downward by withering punditry on the business-news cable channels faulting Mr. Geithner for not providing more details, particularly on stemming home foreclosures."

Witness his now-infamous first press conference -- if you can sit through it. One word: STIFF...

Now, check out the new Geithner, who testified before Congress earlier this week. He's all grown up! SHARP! SURE! SAVVY! SNAPPY!

I don't think he has changed a bit. He still looks like Dr. Strangelove.

If the truth were being reported we'd be having riots in the streets. And meanwhile the top
execs in banks and brokeragesa that caused such a mess are STILL employed and making
millions while laying off THOUSANDS of people that actually do work. If you know anyone in
banking that's still employed, odds are they are doing the work of three people so the top
execs can show 'savings' and contineu collecting mega-incomes.

So Geithner grew up.

From being an opportunist, blockheaded, insecure, moneyloving, fraudulent pseudorepublican

To becoming a businessmanfriendly, intelligent, selfecure, moneyloving, fraudulent realliferepublican

If that is evolution we have some really harsh time in front of us.

Tim Geithner ... Obama's favorite purveyer of fraud and deceit. No wonder Tim must hide the truth about who ended up with the money.

Your house is worth $125,000 but you paid $250,000 don"t worry with "Mark-To-Market" Neutered you can say whatever you want to about your home value and no one can refute you!
Now when you go in for a loan, simply declare the house is worth $300,000 and along with your clean "ON-THE-BOOKS Balance Sheet" with no visible other debts means you get money from the FED at 1% interest or maybe less!
Why can"t this world be true for ALL AMERICANS like it is for Wall Street?
We do not own Congress and they DO using ill-gotten FUNDS!
Are the Wall Street Banks really healthy? With "OFF-THE-BOOKS" accounting and "MARK-TO-MARKET" Neutered who knows what the truth is!

How can I guy who was caught doing business with a Prostitute still have a committe seat. Guys like Vitter, Issa (two families for gods sake), and Ensign should be forced to resign.

I'm not sure, but it seems like they go through the same process that allows a guy, who has had problems paying his taxes, become Treasury Secretary.

Why are we SO concerned about his "stage presence" as long as his policies are good. Unfortunately, both are bad.

His stage presence is irrelevant. His policies have been excellent from the very start.

I knew he was rock solid from the beginning.

He does better in forums he is familiar with.
In front of the public as a reporter he sucks and always will.
As a WASP in an intelectual argument, he excells at taking the stance he has always taken.

His philosophy and Obamas as well, revolve around the ancient one of ensuring power structures are set up in LAW, and cutluraly, to protect the interests of the elite over those of the people.

The fact that as an officer of our Government he is sworn to uphold and defnd our Constitution, and that their beliefs fly in the face of our Constituion as it realates to all the benifits of our Union being reserved for the people alone (Read the Preamble if you do not believe me) is nothing new.

It remains sad at the least, and tragic more normally, as the mind set of the ruling class is still as it ever was to Farm the people for their own benifit.
One day maybe we the people will figure it out and Farm the Elite for our benifit, as it was supposed to be from the beginning.

The Elite exist on our labor, money, and lives, and owe us everything therefore.
Let us Farm them for once, as we perfect our Union.
Start by taxing income over 1 million a year at 85%, over 5 million at 95%, over 10 million at 100%.

Secretary Geithner made an appearance before a congressional committee shortly after his initial press conference and there was little, if any, difference in his demeanor or level of performance between that testimony and the later congressional appearance, shown here.

My point - the only evolution there has been is in how the media, blogosphere. and the people, in general, have perceived Secretary Geithner...and, perhaps, in how Geithner now comports himself during press conferences and interviews.

As for Geithner's first press conference....President Obama may still owe his treasury secretary a big, fat, juicy steak dinner with all of the trimmings. The President, in what can only be chalked up to inexperience on his part - remember, this was 'early days' in the administration - incorrectly announced to the world that Secretary Geithner would be announcing the 'DETAILS' of a plan to stabilize the financial system and home foreclosure crisis. President Obama essentially set Geithner up for failure - in the eyes of those media and blogosphere types who don't know any better, that is.

It was never Secretary Geithner's intent to lay out the details of those plans in a press conference but, rather to set out the general course that he would take. However, anyone who had bothered to follow Geithner's appearances before various congressional committees soon after that press conference, and beyond, would know that there has not been any evolution of the kind described here.

And, I wonder if he's still waiting for his steak dinner at the

We don't need to go forward, we need to go back. Back to the constitution. By the constitution the Fed is illegal. Obama taught constitutional law, he must of taught it wrong.

Martians will visit the earth before the fed is found unconstitutional.

Ron Paul is a genius. The man could dupe a crowd of people into eating pies made out of horse manure.

In dealing with economic and monetary issues Ron Paul is bat+hit crazy.

On the other hand, on international issues he is often right. He is the only member of the House who voted against its misguided Iran resolution.

So you are better at constitutional law than the Supreme Court, even the right-wing judges that the Republicans have appointed.

The most important function of a central bank is to act as lender of last resort in the presence of a financial crisis. The Fed, in carrying out this function has prevented this crisis from becoming another Great Depression. If the Fed had carried out its responsibilities in the 1930s the Great Depression could have been prevented, or, at least have brought it to an end.

Mr. Geithner and the Fed will be the one's to bring America's bankruptcy. Mr. Geithner will probably be the next Fed chairman. Giving the Fed more power is the end of us all. Goodbye democracy.Mark my words. The fed caused the problems we have now and we are going to give them more power.Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!Goodnight and goodluck

Ah, another Ron Paul cultist!

The people in the private financial firms caused the problem, aided and abetted by the failure of the Bush administration to regulate. Yes, Greenspan did make serious mistakes, but he is out and Bernanke is highly competent and did a lot to prevent the financial crisis from turning into another Great Depression.

So, when you are in huge credit problems, you think it is ok to get more credit. Only stupid people do that. Our country just did that, making bigger problems for us. I didn't need anybody to tell me that, I learned that in grade school. How wrong is my way of thinking?

Tim G has cost this country dearly. He has looted the the value of the American dollar by passing trillions to his insider friends. Soon we wll see how SOL we are when 50% inflation in 3 years devastates the elderly on fixed pensions, and eliminates all sectors of the economy dependant on the public spending their discretionary income.

Note Obama did not propose to restricyt hedge funds. What is the influence of Hedge funds? Even Chelsea Clinton was "paid" a half million dollars for "working" for a hedge fund. Nice Summer job.

During the last year we have had deflation, not inflation.

Worrying about inflation when the economy is in a serious recession is equivalent to a person lost in the middle of the Sahara Dessert and dying of thirst worrying about drowning.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:59 AM on 06/20/2009

Blue cross in Michigan is increasing health insurance premiums for elderly by 31 to 46 %. Right, there is no inflation. Have you bought gas lately? The real inflation kicks in as soon as the inventories are depleted or when China stops buying dollars. Ford said they have reduced their incentives as their inventories reduced. Geithner used the Fed's money creation authority to make good toxic investments held by corrupt billionares. He did not help Main Street by more than a token amount. As the ancient Romans said, "bad money drives out good money". Geithner has turned the dollar into bad money.
