I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Witness the new and improved Timothy Geithner! As DealBreaker put it earlier today, the Treasury Secretary has arrived. He's been everywhere lately, including a marathon session in front of Congress and an appearance on Jim Lehrer just in the last few days. And he's showing none of the cringe-worthy stiffness he had when he took over in February.

As you'll see below, his first press conference was just about as awful as it gets. Here's how the New York Times described it:

"Initial reviews for the man and his plan were not good, however. Stock markets slid through the day, perhaps spurred downward by withering punditry on the business-news cable channels faulting Mr. Geithner for not providing more details, particularly on stemming home foreclosures."

Witness his now-infamous first press conference -- if you can sit through it. One word: STIFF...

Now, check out the new Geithner, who testified before Congress earlier this week. He's all grown up! SHARP! SURE! SAVVY! SNAPPY!

its so weird..i was think about how much he has changed yesterday...before, he couldn't even move his neck...I think he was nervous because i mean his job is TOUGH...EXTREMELY TOUGH so one can't blame him.I think he didn't want people to blame him incase it got worse. Now he seems more believable

Yes, you are expressing the majority opinion of Timmy. It does not speak well of a NY Fed top officer to make errors on tax returns. One would expect such a person to know of an uber competent & most careful to prepare his tax return. Timmy may have been quite stressed then. One would hope that Timmy is not prone to panic attacks & similar symptoms of excessive stress. Timmy may need a rest & a leave of absence or a change of occupation.

This kid growing up is news? The fact he is in over his head is pertinent but again old news. Can we trade him in under "cash for clunkers"?

Look out Wall Street Journal, here comes Ryan McCarthy. Hard-hitting business news that not only protects my bottom line, it protects my bottom barrel.

How is this news?

Iran, health care, the financial reregulation...but no, let's read about how snazzy Geihtner is now...because that's totally relevant.

I'll tell you what, stupid as it may seem, it is relevant. Perception is everything, especially right now. I watched Geithner on the News Hour last night and after the interview my partner and I turned to each other and we both said, "Wow, I actually feel a little better." He was so awful and deer-in-the-headlights when he first began. His new confidence is reassuring somehow, and if he exudes that confidence and is able to instill it in others, that really makes a difference.

Timmy hasn't grown up. I do give him credit for learning to be an excellent liar with a straight face. He's shown much improvement in front of the cameras telling lies.

I guess he is getting more comfortable bailing out his homies on Wall St with our money. Meanwhile on Main street people are losing their financial lives.... oh well someone has to pay the bills.

Geithner's confidence is in direct correspondence with regrowth of corrupt CEO dominance and financial shennigans within his reach. His confidence has grown knowing that his boss and Congressional overseers are not going to stop the direction towards financial institution dominance of American life.
When the entire rotten financial, economic finally implodes, Geithner will be transferred to a CEO position in one of the previleged financial institutions. He will disown the ignominous policies of the Obama Administration and may be brought back as Fed Chairman under a new administration.

Despite them operating in quite different spheres (her role being more 'tactical'), I would pay good money to watch them discussing the role of financial institutions in American life.

Good for Tim, he's learning and willing to change.
The Fed job belongs to him.

It has not been determined if Timmy is capable of or willing to learn or to change. Where is the evidence to back up your opinion. There are times when 1 holds a job but is incapable of doing the job. Timmy continues to bungle to be less than articulate about his program. Does Timmy have any idea of what he is trying to do & if he is making any progress in meeting his vague goals? Timmy seems to have a problem with being candid, concise, convincing & concrete about what might be called his program if he made a concerted effort to state his program. All too many comments supporting Timmy are as vague as a newspaper's horoscope.
What is Timmy trying to do? Has he made any progress in meeting his goals, this weeks set of Timmy's goals? Can he state his goals as they stand this week?

He always was much more of an adult than most of us on this site will ever be!
He had to learn how to master the camera's and PR work with the public, that's all. I don't know how to fix the economy, but he always seemed someone "real" to me precisely because he was uncomfortable in front of an audience. Not because he was trying to hide things, but because he was trying to explain things.
