When an actor's name becomes a punchline in Hollywood, it's hard to overcome. His diva behavior was well chronicled prior to the Broadway Sushi episode. Ducking out on his stage role merely provided an excuse to publicly cut him down to an even more diminutive size.

If he was really eating fish twice a day for five years, as he claims, that is a lot. I love fish and I find it sad that something that was so good for you can now poison you. I went to Trader Joe's a couple of weeks ago and the warnings were all over the place in the frozen fish case for tuna and salmon. But Piven was right -- this is man-made.
I was pretty quick to diss Piven over this seemingly diva episode, but now I'm not so sure. Of course, there are a lot of us who never stop working, because we can't, and we don't have the luxury of taking time off to rest, as Piven does. He has the money and he has the health care. On the other hand presumably he is also working at something that he loves, so what's the beef?
