I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Author and comedian John Hodgman--also known as the PC Guy-- was the headliner of this year's 65th annual Radio and TV Correspondents Dinner, and he delivered a humorous speech in which he teased President Obama for being a "nerd," saying that he hoped Obama could finally heal the "age-old conflict" between nerds and jocks.

That sucked...Hodgeman, hodgkiss, whatever was just not funny. the media were just sucking up to the big O, releived that this unknown sock puppet for IMM/comic wasn't making the nano-teflon president angry or uncomfortable and simultaneously unhappy that no blood was shed so that they had something other than substantive stuff to talk about on the sunday pundit parade. Why no mention of Acorn or the trillion dollar bailout? Or Gays married in the military or global warming stuff? Should have had ..uh, trying to think of a right wing comedian and can't right now...oh, dennis miller, why wasn't dennis miller selected as the jester this year? Huh?

Oh..he's not funny...I forgot...cuz, I'm just jokin' ..gotcha.

You are laffing now, aren't you?

You suck.
Hodgeman's type of humor is not for the stupid.
Mentioning Acorn shows you for what you are: a tin foil hat wearing, ign0rant, and backwards tr011.

You are in the minority now.
Get used to it.

The only nuts I know are posters who complain about a community organizing group instead of things like lying us in to a dumb war. Yeah I am laughing, the next 8 years will be a real hoot compared to the last 8, that left me in tears.

Lying us into a dumb war?

Hillary Clinton said in a speech the day she signed the iraq war resolution: "He [saddam] has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including Al Qaeda members, though there is apparently no evidence of his involvement in the terrible events of September 11, 2001"

It's as true today as it was then.

The war with Iraq was not about 9/11. Nobody believed that when they signed the resolution. And Hillary's comments prove that. Read the Iraq war resolution, and you'll see we went to war with Iraq for their failure to comply with the cease fire, interferring with inspectors, their alleged WMD program (which clinton, allbright, biden, rockefeller all believe prior to bush even taking office), repression of a civilian population, etc".

And dont' forget that Bill Clinton signed a declaration for regime change in Iraq in 1998 or 1999.

How can you be so uninformed?

"You clearly not exactly the person we hoped you would be. And perhaps it was wrong and impractical and unrealistic to lay such hopes upon you ... Now is not the time for purity tests ... this is a beginning"

The subtext is very well done. This really made me think of all the critism from the left, and rethink some of it.

Obama has said himself, that too many people have projected their own image of what they wanted a president to be on him. And he understood that many would be disappointed when the real picture didn't hold up to the ideal. He can't be everything to everybody, just be thankful this isn't 2000 and he isn't the cowboy.

He is not really Superman. He is a real human being, as brilliant as can be, but a real person, having to deal with some of the most difficult problems any president ever faced. He is working hard and put all his soul in it, and i'm sure that a year from now, people will look back and appreciate what he has done.

I see. So you would rather he passes meaningless health care reform, that will keep the GOP happy?

I wouldn't. I would rather see him fight for real reform, than concede to the Cons.

Anyone else feel vindicated to learn that President Obama has read Dune?

Hey, are Republicans Dune fans too? They seem to understand and exploit the fact that fear is the mind killer.

I was thinking the samething...

That the GOP uses fear for control..

One other Dune saying is...

Control the courts and the coinage...let the rabble have the rest..

Our recent banking crisis and the battles for control of the courts show a similar mind set.

That means the Cheney might be the baron and bush the emperior with Obama as Paul?

Cain and Abel: jock v. nerd. Indeed, that conflict HAS been around a long time. And the ending of that story does not bode well for either.

Extremely insightful about Nerds! Always found Nerds incredibly interesting but extraordinary. Tinkerers, out-on-the-limb creative thinkers (to the point of the bizarre) and nagging perfectionists is my take on them.

You have to be very smart to really get Hodgman. He operates on a very sophisticated level, absolutely brilliant. You have to wonder what obtuse dunderheads there were among the few stony faces in the audience. This is our national news media! Of course, they didn't really get Colbert at the Press Club either. And that is why Colbert, Stewart, et al, are trouncing the mainstream news media in the pure brilliance of their cultural and political analysis. --Proudly Nerdy since 1957

I thought they got Colbert just fine. They didn't laugh because it was so biting. Obviously, they were uncomfortable with the amount of "truth" that was infused into the performance.

It's not usual for the comedian to be that direct, unless it's a Democrat. Apparently Don Imus wasn't very charitable when he roasted Clinton.

Republicans can dish it out, but they can't take it.

As for Hodgman, does he do stand up? Other than the Apple commercials, I've never seen him before. It seems to me he was a "safe" choice, not particularly political.

He's one of the stars of The Daily Show, with Jon Stewart. He's hilarious there as well.
