Iran Election

washingtonpost.com:

President Obama's first response to the protests in Iran was silence, followed by a cautious, almost neutral stance designed to avoid "meddling" in Iranian affairs. I am reminded of Ronald Reagan's initially neutral response to the crisis following the Philippine election of 1986, and of George H.W. Bush's initially neutral response to the attempted coup against Mikhail Gorbachev in 1991. Both Reagan and Bush were able to abandon their mistaken neutrality in time to make a difference. It's not too late for Obama to do the same.

I like the irony of a chickenhawk lecturing about morality. Thanks for more gallows humor, Wolfie!

What about the Iranians' right to govern their country as they see fit, without interference from other countries? We may not like the way they do it, but then we have countries who are not our fans, either.

Wolfowitz wants Iran to attack Israel so that we get dragged into the ensuing mess. If the Iranians think Israel and the US are behing the Iranian protests, that is a likely possibility.

He is just a neo-con warmonger who was so wrong about Iraq that nothing he says is credible. I believe he's the one who said the war would only cost $17B and that Iraqi oil would pay for it.

The only thing we would get by listening to him is a lot of dead and wounded Americans, and even more hatred of us in that part of the world. We're almost out of Iraq and the neo-cons need another war front to feed billions to Halliburton, KBR, Blackwater (now called Xe) and the rest of the war profiteers. They see Iran as a potential goldmine for American oil companies and couldn't care less what it costs the country in terms of money or lives.

Ah, Paulie, Baby still beating the drums for the right wing gang. After all he was soooo right about the whole Iraq thing so he must be the go to guy for Iran. Don't forget how he covered himself with glory at the World Bank - if we overlook the pimping a job for his girl friend but then it has always been about the money for Paulie.

Listen, Paulie, crawl back into your hole - we'll call you if the Obama administration finally gets the stones to prosecute you and the rest of the gang for your war crimes.

The NeoCons are so worried about losing an external enemy to rally around. I remember the '90s when they were agonizing because of the collapse of the Soviet Union.

It's comments like that which make me happy we voted this hypocrite with no family value off the playing field. Now his words carry no more weight than the wino on skid row

I think that you are both wrong. If McCain had won, Israel would have already nuked Iran (with McCain's permission and support) and there would no US troops in the area due to the radioactive fall-out.

And so it begins. Strategically placed criticisms of Obama which should be titled: Damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. I'm sure Newt will be spewing forth shortly on how Obama should stay out it, blah, blah, blah.

Coming from a guy who brought us Iraq, we can safely ignore him. Wolfowitz has a record of ineptitude, from his time at the Pentagon as a Neocon cheerleader to his ouster from the World Bank. Does he want Obama to launch "Operation Iran Freedom"? As if we don't have enough problems in this country...Spare me the idiotic comments Mr. Wolfowitz.

So how do President Obama's several statements condemning the violence against protesters in Iran constitute "silence"?

Paul Wolfowitz, the genius architect of the Iraq war. Why would anybody print anything he has to say?

Agreed. He must see some oil contracts there some place. But, why is the Washington Post giving this yahoo page space? Aren't they supposed to be a relatively trustworthy newspaper?

He has been so wrong for so long, it's amazing he dare show his face in public. The Republicans and neocons are so good at breast beating - like the situation with Georgia and Russia. They set their hair on fire, but couldn't do a damn thing about it. Same with Iran. President Obama is absolutely correct. Keep quiet unless you can back up the bombast with action.
