Pat Buchanan To Fix Conservatism At Conference In Virginia (And The Rest Of Your Scritti Politti)

I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Pat Buchanan

Hey! What a weekend for people in the D.C. area! Coming to the Birchmere is Charles Ross, acclaimed One Man Lord Of The Rings. I want to go to there!

But hey, what if you'd rather have the same sort of experience, only much longer, with more people, and everyone's rooting for Sauron to win? Well, you are in luck, because in McLean, Virginia this Saturday at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, The American Cause is gathering up the nations most noteworthy dyspeptics and race-baiters under one roof, for a meeting hosted by Pat "Go Somewhere And Chill While The Adults Talk About The Holocaust Museum Shooting" Buchanan, his sister Bay, and their ward, Marcus "Karate Chop" Epstein. It will be fun, fun, fun, until the Tom Tancredo karaoke breakout session, and then you'll probably wish you were dead.

I'm Tellin' All A Y'All It's A Sabato: When Virgil Goode lost his seat, Larry Sabato lost a partner in cronyism. Ben Smith has all the details. I agree that the most fascinating disclosure here is the existence of a "Cordel Faulk," billed as Sabato's "current spokesman." I had no idea that Sabato left anything for anyone else to say!

Birther Madness: Is it just me, or is it really messed up that Tom Coburn is even entertaining the derangement of these birther people? He and President Barack Obama are supposed to be "longtime friends." But for the sake of not losing a single potential fringe weirdo vote, Coburn is supporting the birther bill. Not particularly friendly.

Make Up Call: Greg Sargent reports that after a sustained period of heavy criticism for soft-footing promises made to the gay community, the Obama Justice Department is planning to meet with gay rights organizations. "At the meeting -- which hasn't been announced and is expected to include leading gay rights groups like GLAD and Lambda Legal -- both sides are expected to hash out how to proceed with pending DOMA cases."

Pixar=Good People: "Pixar flew an employee with a DVD of the animated feature film "Up" (which is only in theaters right now) to the home of a terminally ill child for a private viewing." I don't think there's anyone in the world who've done more with computers to promote humanity than the much-beloved and well-acclaimed digital animators.

What, Buchananosaurus is gonna fix the G.NO.P? What's his plan? Tell them to stand on soapboxes on the corner of every street and holler r@cist tripe to all passers-by? This man should be in the Smithsonian next to 8-track players & rotary phones. His "ideas" are just as innovative. Archie Bunker, your party got pwned last November, and I am glad we don't have a man like Herbert Hoover again!

there is a lot to like about true conservatism - such as represented by Buckley and other conservative thinkers of which there are precious too few these days

The original conservatism was all about
less foreign interventionism
fiscal resposnibility
less govt intrusion in personal lives
libertaran views on social issues - legalized drugs for example

the neocons perverted the message
to nation building and premptive war
rapid anti taxation and drunken sailor spending
govt intrusion in medical issues (Schiavo) and your bedroom
theocracatic views on social issues

a lot to learn from the original meassage - a lot to fear from the neoconservative one

When I saw the headline I thought to myself "that had better be a joke". Pleasantly confirmed.

You can't fix conservatism. It is what it is, and what it always has been - the policies that best preserve the wealth of the people that have it and to make sure it stays that way without benefit to any of the other elements of society. The only way to "fix" it is to make it politically irrelevant by making sure the uneducated poor and middle class realize that its policies do not benefit them. What the GOP means by "fix" conservatism is how can we fool enough of the poor and middle class to support our platform and make us relevant again.

If conservatism wants some fixin', the first thing it should do is disavow itself of FOX, Limbaugh, Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann. Oh and John Boehner, Lindsay Graham, and pretty much anyone down South who insists on talking into a microphone. Kick them all out of the club.

No. The first thing they should do is tell Pat Buchanan to go away. Start there.

There's no fixing this right wing menace. Off the charts with hatred, racism and self righteousness.

Pat Buchanan and his sister Bay should close their yaps and go home.
Pat "Where's the red meat"?" has had no credibility since he declared that Obama couldn't win the election because he wasn't tough enough. And what about Bay? Oh Dear; the poor girl had a major make-over but forgot to do anything about that insufferable attitude of hers. All the make-up in the world won't cover a lousy personality.
