For the second time in recent years, she's making a strong case for that title by taking her entire staff and their families on vacation. This time they're going on a lavish Mediterranean cruise.

Amazing how many bi.tter and jealous people are in this thread, trying to harp on Oprah for doing this.
Sad thing is, I knew before I even started reading the comments there would be some people here going "Well she makes so much, she should be giving them even more!"
This is the type of entitlement mentality we've bred in this country at this point.
Anyhow, kudos to you, Oprah--lot of companies earn a heck of a lot more off the backs of their employees and don't even give them so much as the day off on their birthday, let alone a vacation on company money.

Losers usually are jealous of success. It's not a new thing.
I think the fact that she's a woman is behind most of the hate. All suuccessful women cop it (like Rosie O'Donnell and Rosanne) it but the same men sorts of men are lauded. And being black and a liberal are also reasons.
It is indeed incomprehensible, but this is America, full of hate filled, bitter, and snarky people. This blog site illustrates this perfectly.
I'm not sure where the hatred comes from either. Has Oprah asked for a government bailout and used it to pay for these vacations? No... she's not Bank of America. Did she steal the money she has? No, she has worked for years to get her money and status. It's hers to do with as she pleases... how dare anyone criticize her?

Kudos to her.....now if only she'll stop with the kooky medical advice she's given on her show. Anytime Suzanne Somers is esteemed as a 'medical expert', I'm a little scared.
Oprah wasn't giving advice. She was asking questions and facilitating the conversation. Suzanne Somers was simply invited onto the show to share her own experience and describe how she copes with her issues. And as I remember it, a licensed medical professional was also on that show to offer medical insight and, when appropriate, to counter what Somers said.
If you are not menopausal, then you wouldn't have any idea whether the advice is kooky.
If you are menopausal, I highly recommend you listen to the advice given on that show by two very reputable doctors who recommend bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. There is absolutely nothing kooky about the advice, based on years of experience, and many women's lives have been dramatically turned around by it.
Bottom line: It will be a life changing decision for you.

I want to go. I will move from sunny Southern California to Cold Chicago any day, if I had an opportunity to work for Oprah.
Chicago summers are extremely warm/humid... Our winters are not that bad, I actually miss them. DC winters are a joke!!
My hubby is from Chicago and he says he wants to move back someday. I always say, when Oprah hires me we could move there. I get cold very easily, when it is 55 degrees here, I'm freezing :-) I grew up in the south so I am very aware of the hot and humid weather. However, California is bankrupt, so I may be heading somewhere back east pretty soon, if the Governator doesn't fix our state's problems.
It doesn't even snow in CA so yes Chicago would be VERY cold in the winters for the Californians!
I miss midwestern hot and humid summers. California summers are just not the same at all. Need to wear a sweater every night. Hot, dry days, cool nights.

Oprah: "Oh please love me. Aren't I just wonderful?" I wonder how she reacts if one of her employees says, "No thanks boss. I'd rather just spend some quiet time with my family".

Thanks for anticipating my comment. My feelings exactly. I've had plenty of great bosses and plenty of bad ones. My vacation time is for ME. I wouldn't want to be stuck on a boat with my fellow employees for more than a few hours.
And now since I'm self-employed I'm going to give myself the rest of the week off.
I am sure the employees are not required to go if they don't want, but who in their right mind would not want to go on this type of trip especially when your family members are welcome to come. Like I said, some people just can't hide their jealousy!

Not only does she have tons of friends but she's maintained her best friend from her early 20s & they talk on the phone every day & go on road trips. Very few people are lucky enough to achieve that quality of friendship.

Truthfully, she's one heck of a business woman and I wish her the best. She makes millions by basically communicating to people; brilliant! I imagine most of her employees work extremely hard and are very loyal.

She makes billions; yes her people are VERY loyal to her which says a lot about her as an employer!!!
She made $250 million last year. I guess if you consider her lifetime earnings she's be in the billions but most business's are measured annually.

Oh no, I like Oprah. I don't watch her show but I really enjoy seeing good business people make money. I celebrate entrepreneurship and wealth creation.

Your point? Her time is money, BIG money, and if the companies are receiving "advertising boost" for their donations that is what is called a trade, it is not free!
Also, Oprah spends a lot of her own money on others SO STOP being so jealous!
We are not talking about the things Oprah gives away on her shows. We are talking about the charities with which she is involved (Oprah's Angel Nework) and the help she gives to those in need. If others choose to contribute, donate and join in, then all the better. It doesn't change the fact that she is the motivating factor.

The presenter is an employee -- most likely a contract employee. Oprah owns her own multi-media company, Harpo Productions.
