Interesting piece, rather dramatic phrasing. I think Rumsfeld was wrong about a few things, in particular, if the report is correct, that we should cut and run from Iraq because it had become unwinnable, and in underestimating the number of troops required to put down the insurgency, and in underestimating the willingness of the Iraqi people to quickly assume their own leadership and security. But a lot of people, including myself, "misunderestimated" some of those things. Faulting someone for not possessing an infallible chrystal ball seems mean-spirited.

The Rumsfeld Reality is nearly 180 degrees from the left wing's opinion. He did much right and a few things wrong--not unlike the best of human beings in the best of circumstances.

So he complains that the press didn't call out Condi and Colin on their lies as much as they did Rummy's. Condi and Colin had the saving factor of disagreeing with Rummy on many points. They proved out to be not so consistent liars as Rummy was. They weren't the combination of dishonesty and incorrectness that Rummy was. With Colin in particular he told some jelly whoppers at the U.N. and has been vilified for that,but he also gave the admin good advice that was ignored in favor of Rummy's misdirection. Rummy you get the blame because "W " listened to you. Your lies had the most effect.
