Wall Street Journal:

Welfare rolls, which were slow to rise and actually fell in many states early in the recession, now are climbing across the country for the first time since President Bill Clinton signed legislation pledging "to end welfare as we know it" more than a decade ago.

Why don't we simplify:

1. Bush screwed up everything he ever did.

2. Obama hasn't fixed it yet.

Expecting Obama to fix the mess Bush and his cronies left us is like expecting an oncologist to fix the lung cancer of an ex smoker. Sure the root cause is gone but the damage done may be more extensive and devastating for one person and may take more time than anyone imagined.

America was broken up and it's assets sold off just as in any hostile takeover....

They've even sold off our dual use and direct military technologies...

That's why they're the "patriotic", Americans and we're not...

I went on welfare temporarily for a weeks, awhile ago, so I could qualify to go to ..... a hospital. This country is in such a sad situation.

barriosbabe,

I want to apologize on behalf of that creep jordan3189.

You did not need to be subjected to that and I wish the best for you and I am so sorry you have been placed in the situation in which you needed to do that to get the care you deserve.

The recession started in December 2007. Bush did nothing. He knew nothing. He waited more than a year to pass off his problems to the next President.

Obama has been in office 5 months doing the work Bush had years to do.

How has that been working for ya? what's the unemployment rate? How many trillions more in debt are we? The gov't handing out 4500 to trade in your 100 dollar beater. Yeah, we're on the right track.

weren't burger flippers reclassified as "manufacturing jobs" under GW Bush and Cheney ? That happened right around the time of one of Cheney's famous quotes "we're turning a corner".

at least the liberals hand out dollars to citizens of this country and not those of iraq. How many billions did the gw bush administration lose and have no accounting of. Wasn't it wolfowitz who literally handed out bundles of cash to people off the back of a truck in iraq. Yea let's give the rethugs another chance.....not.

Clinton ended welfare by getting Americans into good jobs and working.

Conservatives and their greed exported jobs out of America, lost them their good jobs, and put them back on welfare.

And yet, conservatives still can't figure out why they can't win elections. It's gotta be that "libr00l mediaz".

no he didn't

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:11 PM on 06/21/2009

Yes he did. Democrat presidents pretty much always cut the welfare rolls in half not by denying people but by getting them jobs. Republicans also always triple the debt and have the slowest rates of economic growth as well as job creation.

They lost Congress in 2006 and the presidency in 2008, and prior to those years, they were basically on a roll, beginning with the 1994 takeover of Congress. So where do you get "they can't win elections"? They held the presidency for 20 out of the last 28 years. Do the math. The Democrats were the ones on the fringes of power for years. The pendulum swings, and that's the beauty of America.

Republicans broke the pendulum. Rove is giving America a permanent, one party majority... it's just not his party.

The party of hate will simply become a tiny, insignificant regional party.

Conservatives have been shipping industries and jobs out of America for so long, there's practically nothing left here for Americans.

We used to make stuff. Now everyone wants to put their hand in the other guy's pocket.

Where did we fail?
Why did we so shortsightedly subcontract our heavy lifting so willingly?
Like a Greek tragedy it is.
We even outsource our tragedies.
For shame!

I'd thought for some time that at least companies like Haliburton (a pox on them) were providing jobs for Americans, but have discovered recently that nearly all of the Haliburton emplyees in Iraq, doing the grunt work like cleaning. cooking etc, are Indian, Phillipino or Iraqi. Given the billions they are being paid by Pentagon, you'd think they could at least provide Americans jobs.

Well - I guess Clinton knew what he was talking about. He's in large part responsible for taking America down this road.

Between the trade agreements and his FCC ruling on media mergers -- he's screwed us as badly as any re-Thug.

Don't forget his signing of the "Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act" which deregulated the banking and mortage industries, allowing banks to get into real estate.

Clinton was GOP-lite, and still is. Clinton never met a GOP policy he didn't want to co-opt and make his own.
