Jon & Kate Gosselin DIVORCE: Couple Confirms Split (VIDEO)

NEW YORK (AP) - Celebrity parents Jon and Kate Gosselin say they plan to divorce.

In a statement, Jon Gosselin says he and wife Kate filed for divorce Monday afternoon.

The co-stars of "Jon & Kate Plus 8," who are parents of sextuplets and twins, spoke of their decision to separate during Monday's episode of the TLC reality series.

The network had promised a major on-air decision from the couple, whose increasingly troubled 10-year marriage has dominated the series in recent weeks as well as fueling a firestorm of tabloid coverage.

The Gosselins' announcement raises new questions about the future of "Jon & Kate," which, now in its fifth season, is TLC's most popular series.

But both parents say the show will continue, with their segments of the show filmed separately.

I truly feel sorry for this family, but mostly for the children. I think that TLC should just stop the show and allow this family to heal.
It is obvious that the parents do not know when to stop taping/airing, so TLC should just pull the plug and allow this family some healing time.

A wise old married man told me long ago... When you get married, you're young. You realize that you are going to fight, that you will spend days angry. You will have bad times and good. You accept all of this. What you don't realize is that you will have bad days, bad weeks, and even bad years. This is the single best piece of relationship advise I have ever received. Bad years?! ack!!! But, when you spend a lifetime together, things are going to happen. You gotta deal with it. There is never an excuse to just run away.

I am getting so tired of all these frivolous divorces. "We just argue all the time, and I don't want to do it in front of my kids. Its not good for them." What? Are you kidding me? What are you teaching your kids when you prove to them that love is not unconditional? Why do people choose to stand up before their religious community leaders, and promise man and God to stick it out through thick and thin, and then divorce? What was the point in the first place if they ever thought there was an out. Jon and Kate are another example of a selfish individual who is unfortunately part of my generation. Us Generation X'ers need to maybe not give up so easily and realize that just because things are hard right now, doesn't mean they will be next year.

My wife and I have two sons, now in late and mid 20's. Both are very good, happy men.
They are 2 years apart, and when they were first born, all our attention went towards them.

Being very much in love, we have always been affectionate, best friends, and mutually attracted.
By the time the oldest was 5, the younger 3 years old, our good intentions hurt us as a couple.
Our romance and attraction were on the back burner, and our friendship and love became 2nd.

There was stressful times as kids will be kids, and if allowed, make things all about them.
We finally sat down one night, and talked about the way things have changed as a couple.

The fact was, we both were together, but not "together". We missed each other immensely.
We talked about how it was just us before, and when the kids are grown, it will be just us again.
It was both our faults. we agreed we need to indulge the kids, but we totally over-indulged them.

So we started getting a babysitter once a week, which we never had done. Seriously.­....never.
We vacationed alone, instead of only with the kids.

So our sons grew around 2 loving, affectionate parents, and a happy, fun-loving environment.

Doubt Jon & Kate ever considered that. There real love was not themselves, or "the kids".
It was the fame, the wealth, and the glitter. They sold the marriage and kids for the cameras.

A couple of seasons back, Kate actually surprised Jon w/ a romantic getaway w/ just the two of them to Key West. Of course, the vacation was filmed and during that segment I do recall Kate saying something to the effect that with their marriage they had to reconnect as who they used to be as a couple. Followed by a shot of the sun-setting and the two kissing.

I do agree about couple first. My husband and I just got a away for one entire night (from our four small children) for our ten year wedding anniversary. To drink wine, talk, dance and laugh. We loved it. Vowed to it again!

Is not the real missing story here that of what Capitalism has done to undermine all our traditional cultural values. It used to be you just sucked it and stuck it out till the end. Now with money, you can ditch your family, and live another life. What a great moral lesson Capitalism has taught us yet again.

Let this be a lesson to you people out there who think that raising an army of children will "save" your marriage. If your in this mode of contemplation, your marriage is beyond saving and it would be better to move on.

It won't save your marriage but it can save your finances, as they have successful milked TLC of every penny they can. Kate, who has no real career, has made a ton of money from speaking fees, public appearances and book signings. In a Paris Hiltonesque way, Kate's business is simply "Being Kate".

And why do you think the Octomom had all those Kids? She has seen the Duggars and the Gosselins become rich and famous for having mega-families. She is just following their business model.

I enjoyed watching the show the first couple of years. The show reminded me in a way of a modern version of "The Waltons." It was nice to see something on TV that was cute, funny and not full of violence and sex.

Unfortunately it appears that money and egos destroyed this show. I know many will blame Kate entirely but Jon had no trouble dancing to her tune until they cashed in on the million$. Now suddenly he needs to "find himself" with his flavor of the month. Both parents keep saying over and over the kids come first with them. It seems obvious to me that Kate and Jon's own agendas and needs come first.

So what are we left with? A new show, "Abrasive Kate plus 8 minus 'don't bother me' Jon."

If these 2 egotistical, self serving parents don't have the decency to stop doing this to their kids by airing their marriage dirty laundry on TV, then TLC should show the decency to cancel the show -- for the kids' sakes.

I wish the children all the best as their future will sure to be full of issues with this self-serving couple as parents.

This is one fan that refuses to watch the gravy train express to patheticville any longer.
