Perez Hilton Called Will.i.am A "F*gg*t" Pre-Fight

TORONTO — Police have charged the tour manager of the Black Eyed Peas with assault after he allegedly punched celebrity blogger Perez Hilton outside a Toronto nightclub. Hilton said he got into an argument with band members Fergie and will.i.am at the Cobra nightclub early Monday morning and was punched outside by Polo Molina, the band's tour manager. They were at the club following a Sunday night video awards show.

Molina turned himself in and has been charged with assaulting Hilton, Toronto Police Constable Tony Vella said. Molina is due in court Aug. 5.

Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, complained about the incident on the microblogging site Twitter. He tweeted at 4 a.m.: "I am bleeding. Please, I need to file a police report. No joke."

Hilton, who is openly gay, said in interview with The Associated Press that he called will.i.am a "faggot," a gay slur, inside the club after the musician told the blogger not to write about his band on his Web site.

"He was like 'You need to respect me.' He was in my face. He was obviously trying to intimidate me and scare me," Hilton said. "I was like 'I don't need to respect you. I don't respect you and I did say this, and I knew that it would be the worst thing I could possibly say to him because he was acting the way he was. I said 'You know what, I don't respect you and you're gay and stop being such a faggot.'"

Will.i.am said in a video posting on dipdive.com that he came to Hilton with respect and was called a "faggot."

Hilton, who was at the club with Lady Gaga, said he then left the club and was punched from behind. The pop stars and the blogger were among celebrities in Toronto for the MuchMusic Video Awards on Sunday night.

A spokeswoman for the Black Eyed Peas declined comment.

I agree that violence is wrong, and that Will.i.am's tour manager (or whomever) should not have smacked Perez in the eye and drawn blood, as Perez's says on his site. However, Perez needs to understand that verbal abuse, such as the type he defends, is part of the cycle of violence. It is a power play, as I'm sure he is well aware, and we all know what happens if one goes too far in exchanges of power, especially after the other person has said "stop." What I do find interesting, however, is that Perez says that he would have respected Will.i.am more if Will.i.am had punched him. Wow, man!

I do care about violence. Language can be every bit as much, and sometimes more, of an attack as physical violence. Perez uses words recklessly, insultingly, provocatively. You launch verbal attacks for a "living" and sooner or later someone is going to return the energy in one form or another. Speech is an act with force and consequence; words can be violent, words can start wars, and should be considered as both tools and weapons. Perez hits people in the life/soul and then claims victim when they punch him in the mouth.

Perez stated that it was Will.i.am who assaulted him at first and when Will.i.am said that Perez is lying, Perez insisted that he was telling the truth and he wouldn't lie about something like this. Now he says that it was the manager and not Will.i.am - so Perez, your credibility is shot. Second, he is so vile that first he projects a gay slur and then he tries to instigate more hate by calling Will.i.am a thug. While no one deserves to be hit, the way Perez went on and on about it, as in he thought his eyes were going to come out of his head, he was bleeding, there was no one to help him, I was expecting to see a severely injured Paris instead of a small red scratch under his eye. Perez, if you can have opinions about other people, they can have opinions about the trash that you spew. Get used to it.
