Ryan O'Neal And Farrah Fawcett To Marry

NEW YORK — Ryan O'Neal says he plans to marry Farrah Fawcett, who is struggling to overcome cancer. The 68-year-old actor says in an interview with Barbara Walters for ABC's "20/20" that he asked his longtime companion to marry him and "she's agreed." O'Neal says they will tie the knot "as soon as she can say yes."

Walters' interview with O'Neal airs Friday.

Fawcett was diagnosed in 2006 with anal cancer that has spread to her liver. The "Charlie's Angels" star and O'Neal have a 24-year-old son, Redmond.

O'Neal says the 62-year-old actress is "fighting for her life," but despite her declining health, they will "absolutely" get married.

I want to believe this is good for both of them, but I don't. Griffin O'Neal has questioned his father's motives, pointing out that Farrah has a large estate.
Farrah has never wanted to marry Ryan previously, but she's at her most vulnerable right now. If you want an insight into Ryan's behaviour, read A Paper Life by Tatum O'Neal. Her book paints a picture of a drug-addled, verbally and physically abusive father who left a trail of destruction in his wake.
If Ryan is now trying to reinvent his image, it doesn't wash with me.
Did you know, by the way, that Ryan is still blocking Greg Lott (Farrah's former sweetheart and business partner in farrahfawcett.us) from seeing her? Greg Lott has known Farrah since her teens, his connection with her preceding Ryan's by many, many years. So why would Ryan not want Greg to see her? It's certainly behaviour entirely in keeping with the description of him in A Paper Life.

If I'm wrong, I stand corrected. But I still think the guy is a jerk--he punched his son Griffin several years ago and knocked out his teeth. Tatum has had drug problems. He was arrested with his other son recently for drug possession. Good dad! I still say he's in love with himself.

After 30 years together they don't need a piece of paper to prove their love and devotion to each other. Sadly, this marriage probably has more to do with inheritance rights, and guess what? I don't blame them. It is heartbreaking.

Maybe they ran into a situation where they did need a piece of paper top prove it (legal issues), and this is the only way he can be there for her now in the way she needs him to be.
