Ryan O'Neal And Farrah Fawcett To Marry

NEW YORK — Ryan O'Neal says he plans to marry Farrah Fawcett, who is struggling to overcome cancer. The 68-year-old actor says in an interview with Barbara Walters for ABC's "20/20" that he asked his longtime companion to marry him and "she's agreed." O'Neal says they will tie the knot "as soon as she can say yes."

Walters' interview with O'Neal airs Friday.

Fawcett was diagnosed in 2006 with anal cancer that has spread to her liver. The "Charlie's Angels" star and O'Neal have a 24-year-old son, Redmond.

O'Neal says the 62-year-old actress is "fighting for her life," but despite her declining health, they will "absolutely" get married.

While watching "Farrahs Story" she wasn't able to recognize her own son, Redmond, at the end. (!?) "I dont know who that is.."
How can she possibly be coherent enough to accept his proposal, let alone go through with the wedding?
This smells fishy. She's been bedridden and unconscious for weeks now. And that's per Ryans other stories.

By now, Fawcett will have done with her money and possessions what would be necessary after her ultimate demise. What would O'Neal have to gain from marrying her under some false pretense?
I think the reality of life/death has come clear and he wants to honor her in some significant way.
She is a marvelous woman and deserves every comfort and support she can get.

Friends of mine got re-married as she struggled in her last few weeks of life. It was a beautiful day for all of us...and very special for them. Walk in their shoes...an­d find the magic in small things. This has nothing to do with money or property -- which is certainly covered in her will. It's about things intangible to all of us, but real for them. Pray for healing...­and bliss.

On the other hand another of Ryan motives; other than to give Farah a little happiness are more clear to many of us than he realizes.

I haven't read all of the responses, and excuse my sense of wonder, but haven't any of you heard of a will? They do not need to get married in order for her assets to go to Ryan O'Neal if she has a will stating as such. And you all KNOW she has a will. And it's likely it has been set up to protect their son for years. Perhaps her final wish is that they be married, for once and for all, under God.

If this makes her happy then more power to the both of them. When dealing with cancer (or any illness) positivity and happiness goes a long, long way.

They've both had other spouses/lovers. I think this gesture is a way of saying that they consider themselves 'soulmates­.' It's a fine thing to do but largely symbolic at this stage.
