Senator Refuses To Meet With Sotomayor, Late Because Of Injury

Last Thursday, Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) was scheduled to meet with Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor. Yet when Sotomayor was delayed because of her recent injury, Corker decided that he had more important things to do than to wait around for a potential lifetime appointee who is temporarily disabled:

Sen. Bob Corker blew off his meeting with Sonia Sotomayor last week. Hobbling along with her leg in a cast, she was 10 minutes late and he said he didn't feel like waiting. "I decided to proceed on to the next meeting," he told a Tennessee Press Association breakfast in Chattanooga.

I was outraged when Senator Inhofe flat out refused to meet with Judge Sotomayor, now he seems like a paragon of courtliness for having the decency to tell her not to bother with coming by. These people in D. C. seem to think themselves nothing less than gods.

Irregardless whether or not Cocker plans on voting for Sotomayor, his behavior was arrogant and disrespectful, and showed his intolerance of a person with a temporary disability.

As a disabled vet, I am dismayed at this juvenile little man's behavior. Disabled people often need a little delay for various reasons. He is a petty, petty, petty little boy. I hope all of the disabled people in his district remember him come voting day.

This is the guy who narrowly defeated his African-American opponent (Harold Ford) by airing a commercial that included a bare-shouldered blond woman bragging that she met Ford at a Playboy party, then saying "Harold, call me" at the end. Corker is a jerk who never fails to play the race card.

Now this is where the Democrats need to step up to the plate. What they need to do is shun this backwoods peckerhead for the rest of his term and never I repeat never meet or discuss anything with him in the future.

Racism is one thing but plain ignorance is quite another. Corker deserves nor should he get any respect or even as much as the time of day from any self respecting person.

Although the racism is intolerable but the ignorance is overbearing. All he had to do was just come out tell her he wouldn't meet with her because she was a woman and a Latino then she wouldn't have given up her time to get to the meeting.

I'm constantly amazed how people are willing to criticize, place blame, and get down right nasty without using common sense This was a meeting, the question I ask is "Did Judge Sotomayor inform the Senator's office that she would be late?" Common courtesy would dictate she do so, if not, shame on her. If in fact she did inform the Senator of possible tardiness, shame on him. Using the cast as an excuse for lateness is just that an excuse (sort of like the dog ate my homework), she is an adult and as such should have allowed for her condition. The Senator on the other hand should have shown a bit more empathy and allowed more time, but ultimately it was her responsibility to inform the Senator of her possible tardiness.

Oh, I'm sure she notified someone of her lateness considering she was meeting with one of the Grand Wizards of the South! The point worth making is - how could he be headed to another meeting in 10 minutes? He waited 10 minutes then left for another meeting. This indicated that he was allowing 10 minutes or less for the interview.

Anyone notice that the story said that the spokesperson said the meeting WILL be rescheduled, not that it HAD been rescheduled. The senator may still bail.

A spokesperson said the group was actually supposed to be there at 9:30, but they held the gates for the group until 10:30, 15 minutes longer than they told the group, but when they still hadn't arrived, they had to draw the line.
