Three Fennec Fox cubs were born on May 17 at the Sunshine City Aquarium in Tokyo but waited til this weekend to meet their public! The triplets are being raised by humans but certainly know that their playmates are their furry brothers and sisters.

There's a great French movie about the friendship between a fox in the wild and a little girl. It's very educational and it teaches kids respect for nature. From the same director of "March of the Penguins". It's called "Le Renard et L'Enfant" (the fox and the child), and the English version is narrated by Kate Winslet.

Why oh why does it have to be the case seemingly more often than not, that captive born wild animals are "being raised by humans."

There is usually a statement released that, "The baby or babies were rejected by the mother." In some cases this is no doubt true, due to the completely unnatural zoo environment, but I think more often, overzealous zookeepers, anxious for the publicity and increased revenue new baby animals always bring, simply take the newborns away from their mothers. A practice I find abhorrent, and which must inevitably lead to anxiety and trauma from which the mother animal may never recover.

How incredibly sad that because of mankind's continuing savage treatment of our planetary wildlife, zoos; aquariums; and the grotesque slavemaster exhibitors called Seaworld and Ringling Bros. circus will be the only places left for our decendents to see all creatures great and small.

Great post, something to think about. I'm all for treating the various non-human inhabitants of this planet with respect. And I agree with the posters exclaiming the cuteness of these little foxes, they are indeed!

what kind of documentation or other confirming evidence do you have for your presumption? you do know that zoos and the animals in them are subject to rigorous scrutiny, the staff - especially the zookeepers - are specialists with extensive advanced education and training and licensing, and that *every single animal care professional* knows that keeping the babies with their mothers is not only optimal, but mandatory unless circumstances prevent it. *many* young animal mothers will reject, neglect, or injure their newborns - that is why special nurseries are so important in those cases. your lack of knowledge on this subject is both subjective and appalling.

True, but often they reject, neglect or injure their offspring because they are distressed by their unnatural surroundings. I'm thankful that there are professional keepers who are able to feed and care for newborns when they ARE rejected., But the point that arabianway is trying to make is a valid one. Oftentimes newborns are taken from their mother simply for the publicity. Baby exotics bring in customers, no getting around it.
