A Romanian teenager was electrocuted to death in her bathtub while using the social networking site Twitter, the Croatian Times reports. Maria Barbu, 17, is believed by police to have lost too much battery power while using her laptop computer during an extended bath and was electrocuted when she tried to plug it back in to the wall socket, according to the Times report. Further details of the incident are unknown. Barbu was discovered later by her parents.

Wow, cold comments. Good thing none of you made mistakes when you were 17, and just happened to survive them.
Hey, be careful out there! We're watching and waiting! Ha-Ha-Ha!

And we have always heard that education in Europe is superior tothat of the United S tastes. How very tragic that she didn't learn in elementary science classes to never plug in any appliance when in water. I did back in the 50's

Narrow-minded comment. I can quote you 10 stories from the past week that prove that US is full of morons. And on a side note, Europe consists of many countries, you can't measure or judge all of them as one. Educational systems within Europe, for example, widely differ. Very bad example and very bad analogy. The US educational system on a mid/high school level is not the envy of the world as demonstrated by various international tests, studies, surveys etc.

I agree - a definite Darwin Award candidate. Too bad one has to die to be part of this club...

To win a Darwin award, all one has to do is render him/herself incapable of having children.

You could also just never have children. Having no offspring for ANY reason selects you out of evolution's game. However, most of your genes are carried forward by relatives anyway.

And, the story does not mention whether or not this girl was a mother. If she was, then she cannot win a Darwin award, can she? Because she already 'beat' the game.

I wonder if Neda was a mom? Possible Darwin candidate? Or would that be too heartless?

I think death by twitter is as Darwin worthy as it gets.

The story has next to nothing to do with Twitter. Some fool was using their laptop in the tub and got electrocuted - the website they were on at the time is inconsequential.

Lawsuit!

Twitter will now come with a warning. Do not tweet while bathing.

But what if you want to tell people you're taking a bath? Or that you're just about to plug your laptop back into the soc--ZZZZZ!

Poor thing. Power adapters are supposed to have ground fault protection to avoid such grievous consequences. But electricity and water are not a good match.

This ain't the United States. GFIs are always in the wall or somewhere where moisture and electricity might combine.

So you didn't know better than to mix electricity and water when you were 17? That's not that young, have a brain.

No kidding. It's easy to be cold hearted and bitter when you don't have to actually face a human being.
