Ensign

Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) apologized to his Republican colleagues at Tuesday's weekly conference lunch, his first meeting with them since the sex scandal that cost him his leadership position. The short speech earned Ensign a round of applause, according to Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), who was at the meeting.

"I think he plans to be a very good senator from Nevada," Corker said. "All I can say for sure is that it was very, very sincere, very heartfelt and very well received in our caucus. I just appreciate the way he was today, and I think everybody in our caucus does."

There were no tears from Ensign, Corker said, but "he was obviously somber and serious. And this was not a flippant thing that he did." Though Ensign didn't take any questions from GOP colleagues, Corker said, "He answered the questions I had. Today he did what he needed to do with us."

"We all recognized what a painful experience this has been for not just his family, but for all those involved," Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) said. "We appreciated him saying how sorry he was."

Ensign did not go into much detail regarding reaction in his home state, Corker said, adding that he had little interest in those particulars.

"I don't follow it blow by blow, obviously," Corker said. "I'm not from Nevada."

I don't understand why these men go out and have FUN with women/men and then when they get caught they think that if the apologize to everyone in the world then everything is okay.
They are not sorry for what they done -- they are only sorry for getting caught !!!

Right-wingers and fundamentalists always fall for the sobbing apologies,
awash in tears a la Jimmy Swaggart: Forgive me, ah have sinned!

Who cares. he's just another holier than thou hypocrite. LIke Gingrich and all the rest with their multiple marriages and affairs. Their secret gay life styles while they vilify gays. And this guy Ensign was being touted as a presidential candidate? That's the best they can do? Oh I forgot, their other choices to date were Jindal, who has no future in national politics after that dreadful speech, Palin who has not one decent idea but can spend a week barking at Letterman and allows her daughter to be exploited for political gain, and Gingrich who of his many faults, cheated on his cancer stricken wife and dumped her as she lay in the hospital. How impressive.

His speech earned him a round of applause, Larry Craig was given an all around gracious send off last year by dems and reps. A supposed state investigation ordered by a republican governor found Foley not guilty.

Where are the dems roundly chastizing these hypocrites for do as I say and not as I do? Where is the big deal being made about the fact that Gingrich and Ensign both called for Clinton to resign over Lewinsky while gingrich was doing it at the same time? Where is the criticism of the family values they like to spout at any given opportunity?

Dems grow a spine and learn how to use the republicans guerilla tactics against them, even if some of you have your own skeletons in your closets. Just bury them deeper and A T T A CK!!!!

I think it is wise of the Dems to let the republican.ts have this all to themselves. When your opposition is shooting themselves in the foot, let them. Besides it is the Republican.ts who always take the self righteous stance not the Democrats. The republican.ts are always talking about family values so they are the true hypocrites. Amazing though that this hypocrite Ensign can show his face after coming down so hard on Craig and Clinton demanding they resign. It seems Vitter and pretty boy Ensign are in with the republican in crowd.

I'm confused as to why Sen. Ensign only apologized to GOP peers, and not the Senate as a whole.

Think of this as trying out the show in Providence before you take it to Broadway. Find an accepting audience that will still give you an idea of what works, what needs punching up.
