John And Kate Plus 8 Announcement: Conan Guessed Wrong (VIDEO)

Jon and Kate Gosselin made a major announcement last night on their show, and the media was abuzz for days ahead of time speculating about what it would be. The obvious (and correct) answer was that the embattled pair were getting divorced. This didn't stop Conan from throwing his hat in the ring last night with a guess as to what the major announcement might be (the "Tonight Show" aired after this dramatic episode, but taped before it). Thankfully, he was wrong.

Here's why Conan won't have a job after November.
Excellent video piece, but he gives us a lackluster set-up and a terrible follow-up. He can't even remember he hired back his Ed McMahon and still instinctively turns to Max for sycophantic approval. (Max is the greatest rock and roll drummer in the world but he is not a sidekick, let alone a comedian. Still, he's far better than Paul Shaffer's witless interruptions.) Now Conan's stuck for almost a minute turning back and forth as his two sidekicks trip over each other while trying to please the boss.
Conan does the occasional bit or video that works--it's his strength. He began as a writer and it's all he does well. But he's lousy at monologues, lousy at stand-up, a poor interviewer, and he always looks tremendously uncomfortable on camera. Not just shy, but painfully uncomfortable.

Craig Ferguson is the only guy on who breathes life into the format. Dave stopped being funny, or even 'edgy,' years ago and has been phoning it in for quite some time.
