Yup it'll be used for the uses specified in the post. Not for high speed chases. Probably for parking enforcement as well. Similar to using Civic Hybrids for LA City Parking enforcement. Won't be replacing the Crown Vics anytime soon. (So when is Ford gonna replace those with the Galaxie built on the Aussie Ford Falcon platform?)

They don't do car chases in LA like you think. Today with GPS, and other technologies, such as helicopter tracking, roads and streets can be blocked off. Coopers are fast and nimble. I wonder how long the battery can stay charged. The idea of using government to lease and or purchase Green products helps the public get on board.

They may be better in a traffic jam than a full sized car, but when doing car chases one wonders if it will survive the inevitable crashes. For that price we can afford to find out I guess... so long as the officers who are selected to drive 'em are volunteers.

We drive them hard here in Germany for years on Autobahn at 100mph+ and trust me, they are as safe as any other quality Euro-Car. 5/5 stars in crash test.
