WASHINGTON -- Documents gathered by lawyers for the families of Sept. 11 victims provide new evidence of extensive financial support for Al Qaeda and other extremist groups by members of the Saudi royal family, but the material may never find its way into court because of legal and diplomatic obstacles.

Not if they have been paying attention. There was information in the 9-11 Commission Report that one of the hijackers had been receiving money from a wife of a Saudi Diplomat. There was also the 19 pages that were redacted and pulled from the published report which we never got to see. And there was that rather troublesome relationship between Bush and the Saudis. Let's face it, war is good for oil prices--if you are selling. It was no doubt and always has been a marriage of convenience. And there is still that rather problematic intervention to allow bin Laden to escape from Tora Bora, as well as the out of the country passes for the other members of the bin Laden family after 9-11. Bush should be investigated for his ties to the bin Ladens and the Saudis. That would be a much better story than his use of torture, believe me. For anyone who has even glanced at the 2 books on Bush by Craig Ungar or "Family of Secrets" by Russ Baker, this is all old news. Too bad it only took the New York Times almost 8 years to get the story.
