Why does the US keep targeting funerals? Darkly Ironic sense of humour?

It's where their friends show up! Brilliant! I'm guessing the funeral business will be slowing down soon in Northwest Pakistan.

A funeral... that's cold-blooded!

Even most mobsters consider funerals to be neutral ground.

Some of the comments here are disgusting. I don't care whose funeral it was, for goodness sake, it was a funeral! I love how people of European ancestry can diminish the value of a brown person by putting a label on them. The real terrorists are the ones indiscriminately killing people of a different ethnicity.

The problem with your argument is, they are not indiscriminate killings.

Good Job Drones! Don't you Americans think u must clean up terrible mess called Taliban - the fruits of praised work of Ronald Reagan. It's America's fault, talibs burn down girls schools. So stop whining about dead mujahedeen! Send more Drones!!
08:23 PM on 06/23/2009
Or may be if you Russians didn't invade Afghanistan, Vanya, there would be no Taliban to begin with.
Hmmm?

Update:"
"U.S. drone killed at least 45 Pakistani Taliban militants on Tuesday when it struck after a funeral of an insurgent commander killed earlier in the day, Pakistani intelligence officials said."

Bravo. Demoralized Talibs can become an easy prey to Pakistani army.
The more time they spend surviving, the less time they have to plan and carry out attacks

Exactly.

It's so easy to hate when you think that your "enemy" is less than human.

But you don't even realize that it reflects on you, not them.
02:02 PM on 06/24/2009
Your naivety reflects on you.

and all because booshie let his buddy OBL escape at Tora Bora so he could keep on using him as a boogie-man

"There were echoes of Bush-style "deciderism" in President Obama's peremptory announcement of an Afghanistan troop "surge" in February. Likewise, it was hard to miss the Iraq parallels in last week's House vote for "emergency" funding to continue the nearly eight-year long Afghan war. Several skeptical Democrats switched their vote to "yes" at the last minute, citing loyalty to their party's president. (The more things change….) "Quagmire" probably isn't the right metaphor for arid Afghanistan, but once again, we seem stuck in a costly, dangerous foreign adventure. And Obama's strategy for success, such as it is, is heavy on the "hope," light on the "change."

These are supposed to be smart technology weapons? These weapons are no smarter than those who create them and that could be a debate within itself. I can see why people are getting frustrated and angry with our indiscretions. People are getting tired of these killings and I can understand their reasoning. As these weapons are supposedly getting smarter, it seems as though we are getting dumber and dumber.

Uh, no. Mission accomplished. I have long wondered why they haven't done this earlier. The funerals are attended only by men because of course, women may menstruate, speak or be seen breathing. If the dead man was a Talib, you can bet the rest were as well. They are the enemy and provide OBL with a safe haven. You should know this being an AF vet and all.

Can we please stop treating war like a video game. We seem to have this notion that these drones are smart enough to distinction between friend and foe. Since we train military pilots and pat them good money to engage in these types of missions, let them do their jobs., Better yet, we have spent enough blood and treasure on war. Let's pull all U.S. forces out, give it a couple of months and reevaluate the terrain. Who knows, maybe, we and the innocent folks in Pakistan will have better luck.
07:51 PM on 06/23/2009
No.
04:22 PM on 06/23/2009
Why the spork are we still using these things. Pakistan has a long history of being shelled by the Briitish I can't see any possible reason why these drone attacks help us more than hurt us.

Who is controlling these drones? This has to stop. It is more of the "shock and awe" type of warfare that seeks to persuade us we can make war without incurring losses. It has to end now.
07:51 PM on 06/23/2009
No.

Holy crap. If anyone here hasn't seen Eagle Eye, this is exactly what happens to cause the evil computer to try and take over the entire government. We're doomed.

Back to the Bat Cave Robin. You will be safe there.

Ya, I was thinking just that too. Now our government will be in the hands of that bald guy from The Shield.
