White House Keeps Meeting With Coal Execs Under Wraps

Much like the preceding administration, Team Obama is fighting to keep White House visitor logs secret. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), a nonpartisan watchdog group, recently requested that the Secret Service make the White House logs public, asking specifically for access to records of visits by coal company executives. The request was denied, and the group is now filing suit.

I am not sure that this rises to the level of Dick Cheney's energy task force where they divided up the Middle East Oil fields and proceeded to bend government in the US and UK to go to war on two continents. There is an issue of scale here.

We know that both of these industries make profits in the billions quarterly.
We know that developing a clean renewable energy future is imperative.

I was recently at a Frontier League baseball game for the Washington Wild Things who play at a very nice park owned by Consel Energy one of the nations largest coal producers. Between innings they where tossing out give-aways, the give -aways where small black pieces of foam shaped like coal. I kid you not. Next year Consel Energy will have their name on the new arena for the Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins, I quess the pucks will now be shaped like coal. Maybe at some point this wasted money should be used for something good. Oh ya, Cap and Trade what a clever idea.

Here's what the article doesn't tell you: Obama met with these coal executives to discuss "clean coal" policy. As I probably don't need to tell you, "clean coal" is a myth.

I'm not totally surprised. Originally, his website he said he endorsed clean coal after all... but now the website doesn't say anything about clean coal or the pipeline in Alaska. Just some detail-less plan about renewable energy.

Opening up the visitor logs sounds like a great way to empower the extremist Republicans to create more absurd talking points standing in the way of progress.

Obama hasn't done anything that suggests he is heading in the wrong direction. We need to trust him until he gives us reason not to.
