The Thornbirds? Great! Now I'll never be able to read that book again without seeing this guy's face! I don't really care about his political career. Seems he hasn't been in a frame of mind to run a state for some time now. Those e-mails depict an emotionally isolated individual. Almost feel compassion for him. Almost. If he didn't have three boys that he left alone to run off and spend father's day with another woman.
Sorry Mr President, your health-care reform has been one upped in the media by a Republican soap opera.

Wow, the Thornbirds - excellent comparision! now i have that problem if i re-visit that movie. But richard chamberlain he ain't. Amazing how this has taken focus of the real world and we've slipped into a fantasy-land again. Maybe this whole thing and the pressue is the reason he voted against the stimulus for south carolina in the first place - maybe temporary insanity.

Where did the Thorns Birds reference come from. Mark Sanford is NOT Father Cutie! Ha!

Like i said, richard chamberlain he certainly ain't y'all! He's all kinds of not-attractive.
but he is a lot like that tragic figure we felt sorry for, the romance we rooted for (that island beach scene, my my!) and hated for his self-serving greed at the same time.

The difference is that these guys - Ensign and Sanford campaigned on a family values platform, were strong advocates for the Defense of Marriage Act and highly critical of Clinton for his improprieties. It's one thing to do these things, it's another to sanctimoniously condemn others in public while doing the same thing behind closed doors (or in Argentina as the case may be). Ensign, Sanford, Limbaugh, Gingrich - all supporters of the Defense of Marriage Act. Irony at its finest.

Irony, yes, but hypocrisy is a more appropriate word. It's forgiveness and applause when they do it, and vindictiveness and outrageous and perverted ads when the other party falls. Do unto others ----

No way! Why should he?! Clinton cheated on his wife IN THE WHITE HOUSE! He didn't resign. How is this any different?! How about B. Franks and the scandal of guy prostitutes and his congressional apartment? Or Chris Dodd and the money from CountryWide?! Sanford should NOT resign! I am sick of the double standard from the democrats - when the dems do it they get to keep their jobs; when repubs do it, "off with their heads!" The dems need to practice what they preach, or shut the h*** up!

99 Bottles of Beer in the Wall, if one should fall, we'd have 98 bottles of beer in the wall. So it goes with the randy Repubs. It will come down to where Sarah darling will be the pres candidate and McCain will be the VP! Unless ------------------ hmm, stay tuned, the soap opera gets juicer.

What a gross violation of someone's privacy. This is shameful, to publish such personal thoughts.

Sanford can be criticized for his public policy, he can even be judged for his hypocrisy. But the very personal stuff, the stuff between him and his wife, and with this other woman, is none of our business. To delve into the details is just the most disgusting prurience. I feel sorry for the man, and his family.

You know, I guess what his wife originally said about him wanting to get away from the kids so he could have privacy to write was correct. It must be awfully hard to concentrate on writing about your mistress holding two magnificent parts of herself while your young sons run around and selfishly intrude on your thoughts. The nerve of those kids.

I can't stand this kind of people, not because his affair, nobody is perfect, but because he always spoke out against those who, like President Clinton for example, commited the same mistake,no doubt these kind of human beings are repugnant.

My take on all this is that Sarah Palin has employed Thomas Muthee, that Kenyan witch hunter and
demon vanquisher, to put a spell on all the male republicans that could be her competition in 2012.
We'll be hearing of other revelations soon.

Pelosi uses millions of taxpayer dollars to fly home every weekend in her own version of AirForce One. Definitely unbelieveable! Total waste of money, not to mention the extra fuel being burned into the atmosphere! Where are the "global-warming, go green" fanatics about this?? Talk about a carbon footprint!

Why read the E mails ? It is a private matter and should not be used for heavy breathing Gossips.

Just once I would like to see a little class by the media. Sanfords constituents will tell him what to do.

If the State hadn't released the Emails, do you think Sanford would have made the public confession he did? The governor had to know they were going to be published and that may be why he ran off to B.A. to talk about it to Maria. He strikes me as naive or inexperienced and I feel sorry for him. He sounds like a real romantic who found a corresponding warmth and sadly, maybe she is his soulmate. I do believe this romance is a first for Sanford (maybe I'm the naive one) as he is obviously tormented. Although he seemed more broken up about letting down his buddy than his family. If he hadn't been so moralistic and judgmental in the past, and if his description of his schedule didn't sound like one vacation after another, and if he hadn't just walked off the job unannounced, it would be easy to sympathize. I think there's a lot more to come out, including the state of his marriage,

Actually rather than putting him in a worst light these stir up some compassion...he seems to genuinely care for Maria (cliche!!!)...though in that way that men have perfected by compartmentalizing his life such as making a "list" of activities with significant others in his life- the family trip to asia and the upcoming mccain hangout...while declaring that he connects to her "soul" ...maybe reconciling is not the best thing.

I have said frequently- and it's not a popular opinion....... I am disgusted and outraged and feel a sense of smugness at this whole sordid thing and his come-uppance. The voice of south carolina's bible-thumping family values don't take the stimulus thug rhetoric. But i am also a romantic and i am in tune with the fact that love makes us do crazy and inappropriate things. having said that, i think he should resign. and if he truly loves Maria, he should go to her and stay there. His marriage cannot succeed based on guilt and doing the right thing and no feelings for his spouse. The letters were very touching and romantic, and fodder for ridicule. But the woman in me found them very heartfelt and touching. Unbefitting of a governor of a u.s. state, a liar and a self-serving weasel - but reconciling sounds like disaster. For both parties. The family would be better off without him. If he does not love his wife, he's not doing her or the boys a service by forcing himself to continue with the charade. it cannot succeed. and his wife deserves to move on.

His humor and romance is engaging too bad it came at such a high price! I pity his wife most.

From Gov. Sanford,
Date: Thursday, July 10, 2008, 12:24 a.m.

"Two, mutual feelings .... You have a particular grace and calm that I adore. You have a level of sophistication that so fitting with your beauty. I could digress and say that you have the ability to give magnificent gentle kisses, or that I love your tan lines or that I love the curve of your hips, the erotic beauty of you holding yourself (or two magnificent parts of yourself) in the faded glow of the night’s light - but hey, that would be going into sexual details ..."

I can't get past the "I love your tan lines, curve of your hips....blah blah blah.."without wanting to barf. I cannot imagine how crushed his wife must feel. The betrayal to his whole family (& friends) must be so brutal.

But for him (and Maria) to be brazen enough to type all of this stuff online, where it leaves a digital trace like this, is just too much. How could they be that stupid?! Answer = Because they were!! Affairs are VERY stupid and very selfish.

It's the re-thugs' refusal to move into the 21st century - technology, the "internets", the fact that emails can be and are saved by those with their own agendas who wish to use them for takin' you down, by irate spouses, associates and opposing parties - this is the thing, along with that ridiculous impossible-to-live by rightwing rhetoric - that did him in. Deservedly, but avoidable if you had half a brain in planning these things.
