I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Michael Savage

I'm having a hard time discerning the logic behind talk-radio host Michael Savage's recent threat to post pictures and "pertinent information" about the people who work for Media Matters For America on his website. Oh, wait! I see my mistake! I am sitting here, contemplating Michael Savage, and attempting to "discern logic." Okay, my bad.

The story goes like this: Michael Savage hates him some Media Matters folks, for constantly harping on his craziness, and probably because he blames the media watchdog organization for the way he was banned from entering Great Britain by Home Secretary Jacqui Smith. So, Savage recently called upon "all people in the media who have been harassed by this Stalinist group, Media Matters, to join forces to publish the names of the people and put their pictures up on their websites." Ahh, yes! Who can forget the robust growth of media watchdog groups that flourished under Stalin!

[LISTEN]

What's strange about this is that Media Matters has been making the case for some time now that right-wing voices have been ramping up rhetoric that specifically urges violent acts and intimidation. So now, Savage is talking about a running a web-stalking campaign against them? Hmmm. I wonder what sort of conclusions a person might draw from that?

Ron Moore, writing for the Washington Examiner, June 24, 2009:

The history of right wing extremists using "wanted" posters against abortion providers is well documented. Recently the right wing Christian group the American Center for Law and Justice celebrated its court victory for the "truth truck" that promoted incendiary attacks on Dr. George Tiller. Sadly two days later Tiller was dead, assassinated in his place of worship. While the court case and Tiller's murder cannot be directly linked it demonstrated a certain morbid insensitivity that the group continued to trumpet the court victory after Tiller's death.

[...]

Against this backdrop the threat to post pictures and personal information about media watchdogs as a response to criticism can legitimately be perceived as a threat. Michael Savage may be famous for brash talk and incendiary language, but recent history must be taken into account as his "Savage Nation" may take the talker's inflammatory posting as marching orders to take action against his enemies.

And against this backdrop, it seems to me that making Media Matters the target in the same way that they have been writing about, with earnest concern, only helps to prove their point. It just doesn't make logical sense for Michael Savage to do...oh, but there I go again!

No matter what, he still shouldn't be banned from a country just for exercising free speech. If I was him I would be fighting these people too.

He's not exercising "free speech" he's inciting violence, or coming very close to it, against progressives and liberals and socialists. This is how "a" hitt lerr rose to power. We cannot allow thugs to control the airwaves and incite violence. The fact these loons have the majority of radio spots is very telling; they reflect the attitudes of this country's wealthiest neo-fascist fringe, people like Scaife et al. One way to balance this is to return the fairness doctrine from the Roosevelt period.

Media Matters simply reported what he was doing. The British decided they did not want his type in their coutnry. MM is not responsible for a civilized nation shutting its doors to a shrink job. They are only reponsible for exposing his bigotry, hatred and violent attitude. And justly too.

Actually, he wasn't banned for exercising free speech. He was banned for being an obnoxious hate-monger. The British simply said, "If you're going to behave like that, we don't want you in our house," the same thing we said to them for different reasons some 223 years ago.

Savage is more a clown than a hazard, but he does talk a brashly macho game. Linkins is correct: there is no logic to it, despite his putrid claims to be a philosopher (because he can cite sort of random lines from Socrates/Plato out of context and with no real match for his supposed thought processes). His book --Savage Nation--irritated me when I first looked at it, then I decided I should not judge it without having read it. It was, of course, worse than irritating; it was baseless blowhard nonsense. To be a pundidiot is, of course, his right, and a quite natural stance for so many on the far right, but it is also our right to challenge his nonsense and expose his foolery.

By the way, unless he can be a nicer person, Savage is also banned from my house. And Mike, I am an ex-Green Beret, so walk softly.

Note - "Hippocratic" is the oath that physicians take. From the Greek Hippocrates.

The word you're searching for is "Hypocrite", or "Republican" works just as well.

Interesting use of what, I assume, is your native language. Did you hear these words from one of your leaders (Limbaugh/Hannity/Beck/Savage/any tool anchor on FAUX "news") and try to transcribe them without a dictionary or what?

Funny thing, all you have to do to get the names is look on Media Matters. This isn't a shadow organization pulling strings behind a curtain, it's a bunch of run-of-the-mill journos practicing their profession.

It is truely amazing how in our modern media climate things like simply telling the truth and discerning fact from fiction are now considered liberal causes.

" simply telling the truth and discerning fact from fiction are now considered liberal causes".

You've highlighted a reality in our current, political environment. That is, the left overwhelmingly uses facts, truth, and journalistic integrity. Whereas the right overwhelmingly uses, smear tactics, propaganda, and hate mongering to manipulate sentiment.

Michael Savage is a dangerous man. MMFA simply posts audios of Savage's words. If he doesn't like what he says, he shouldn't say it.

free speech is the one that offends you, the left just happens to be in the possition of power now and use selective moral outrage.
So much hate coming from the Kos, MSNBC, Bill Maher, pink code who rejoiced at our soldier being killed

SAVAGE is an equal opportunity thrasher and no one in the left can claim that TITLE

Jon Stewart and Bill Maher have attacked many people from the left. If you'd try watching instead of talking on something you don't understand, you'd might have seen that.

"...who rejoiced at our soldier being killed"

Which soldier?

Aside from that, what you are saying is ridiculous. If you honestly think these people and groups are happy with people dying, let me tell you how wrong you are in your interpretation of their actions or words.

First thing in a civil conversation is to not question someone else's motives. Question their actions and logic and policy, but you are living in a fantasy world if you truely think people who disagree with you politically are cartoon characters rejoicing at death of our soldiers.

If you got real instead of living in fantasy land, a whole lot of good can come out of it, because without that, there is no civil conversation. Just people calling each other Hitler.

This is what you on the right all do, forget that someone was just threatened by one of your guys and then say the other guys do it too.

Well they don't and he does and this is why the only ones left in your party are the haters - and nobody like the haters.

The Center shall rise!
