Perez Hilton Defends Use Of Word "F*gg*t"

LOS ANGELES — Perez Hilton isn't apologizing for using a gay slur, and says he's never claimed to be a spokesperson for the gay community.

The celebrity blogger said in a statement Tuesday that he will continue to say things upsetting to gay and straight people alike. The comments came after the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation called for Hilton to apologize for unleashing the word during an altercation with Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am.

Hilton said he felt physically threatened and sought the most hurtful thing he could say during the confrontation at a Toronto nightclub early Monday. Police charged the band's tour manager with assault for allegedly punching Hilton.

Hilton said he did what he thought best to stand up for himself.

Why do blacks get away with using the "n"-word though? I'm black myself and NEVER use that word. Yet, I hear blacks (and plenty of Hispanics/Latinos and Asians) using that word all of the time and nobody even cares. What's the excuse? "Well, if it's a word used towards 'our people,' then we can use it towards each other." I think it's a pretty lame excuse.

Regardless of your race if you pay attention you'd know that the majority of us would not and do not use that word. Just the loudest of us!

I understand that its not all b.lack people saying it, but I agree with the first person in that I sure hear a lot of it. In the past 3 years I have lived/traveled often between 3 major US cities - in extremely crowded and diverse areas. I, too, have heard b.lacks and l.atino.s using the word like a comma and I find it to be a.ppalling.

I am not b.lack, so maybe one can argue that I don't have the personal experience and struggle to give my opinion. But I can speak as a J.ew, whose people have seen many har.dships and have long been disc.riminated against as well. I can't tell you how many stories I have heard from my father about people calling him the "k" word (it's the word kite, but replace the t with another k). But you want to know why most people in younger generations don't even know about the word?

BECAUSE J.EWS AND OTHERS NEVER MADE EFFORTS TO PERPETUATE IT!

If you continue to say a word - even in an attempt to change its meaning to empower people- the word still exists and therefore people will still remember the old meaning.
