Perez Hilton Defends Use Of Word "F*gg*t"

LOS ANGELES — Perez Hilton isn't apologizing for using a gay slur, and says he's never claimed to be a spokesperson for the gay community.

The celebrity blogger said in a statement Tuesday that he will continue to say things upsetting to gay and straight people alike. The comments came after the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation called for Hilton to apologize for unleashing the word during an altercation with Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am.

Hilton said he felt physically threatened and sought the most hurtful thing he could say during the confrontation at a Toronto nightclub early Monday. Police charged the band's tour manager with assault for allegedly punching Hilton.

Hilton said he did what he thought best to stand up for himself.

It never occurred to me that he was a spokesperson for the gay community but I'm glad he set the record straight (not pun intended) since he'd be a terrible spokesperson for anyone.

I saw the altercation on TMZ (yeah, I'm ashamed) and it was pretty clear that he was the aggressor. He was following will.i.am and no one was yelling but him. I think his You're not an artist, you're a fa.... comment was designed to cause trouble and if the worst thing he can think of to call someone is that slur, it's a sad commentary on his own self esteem. (or lack thereof)

Agreed. It's possible to both be gay and homophobic and clearly he is. If he had any self respect he wouldn't use that word.

So let me get this straight (no pun intended) you go and cry and get the police involved after you start an altercation and call someone a name and you are shocked, shocked I dear say that you get tagged. Personally that just sounds like instant karma to me. You call people names, in a nightclub of all places, with drinks involved (cause we no that never leads to fights) and then whine and cry and tweet that someone dotted ya. Frankly, it would seem ya got off light and didn't get the full a$$ kicking ya were asking for.

While I'm not sure how Canadian laws work (I'll assume it's very similar to the U.S.), you can say whatever you like. But you can't put your hands on somebody. How many of us have been called the nastiest names and didn't hit that person? There's been too many times that has happened to me and you know what I did? I fought back with my words. While I do think Perez instigated the entire thing, I don't think it's justification to put your hands on somebody.

You are right, people can say whatever you'd like and people should not be allowed to hit you, however, you also just have to admit that if you are going to say "the most hurtful thing I can think of" then you are setting yourself up to take one. If you create a confrontation then just don't whine afterwards when it goes all sideways on you. Don't put yourself on twitter, and go crying to everyone cause to me, you had it coming. There are consequences for everything that you do, and in this case it looks to be a bit of a shiner. To me, if you want to take the action of trying to start stuff, then just don't get upset when the consequence of it is you getting a right cross coming back in your direction. Its like trying ot have it both ways to me and it just doesn't work that way, you can be smart, or you can be PH.

It was a tense situation that Perez started with his misogynistic attacks on Fergie and Perez escalated it with a verbal attack and he still got off. Will. I. Am. did not slug him.

ps, I for one am relieved that he isn't a spokesperson for lgbt community. I and the rest of the "community" collectively thank him for that revelation. he, however, is an especially nasty individual, and while i don't condone acts of violence, i'm really surprised this didn't happen to him sooner.
