I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Stephen Colbert

Stephen Colbert, a native South Carolinian, declared himself governor of his home state last night. Elected-Governor Mark Sanford has been missing for days, with staff claiming he was hiking the Appalachian Trail, and his wife saying she had no idea where he was. Much to Stephen's chagrin the rogue Republican returned yesterday revealing he had in fact been in Argentina "recharging" after a tough legislative session.

Colbert had courageously stepped in after several state officials voiced concern over South Carolina being leaderless, with one saying:

"Who is at the helm? The way Iran is acting up, and what about weather catastrophes? Hopefully no decision has to be made."

Colbert felt especially qualified for the job because he knows the area, has interviewed Sanford, and (most importantly) is present.

God Bless, Colbert! I had forgotten about his SC roots and his bid with the SC DNC. Not so trivial now, huh? Who's laughing now, huh? And leave it to Colbert to do it with class and irony. With all the bad press SC (and the South) is getting for this - it's good to remember that the South also gave us the political humor with the likes of Colbert, Mike Luckovich, Dave Barry and others - who have the funniest perspective of all. From the inside...

Oh and, we can laugh at the situation now but hurricane season started June 1st. I hope Sanford had the Weather Channel on in the background the whole time...

The potential Republican candidates for 2012 are dropping by the wayside every day. What's left, serial adulterer Newt? Pit bull Palin? Gack! I predict that before 2012 the GOP will be begging Stephen Colbert to be their candidate. He at least knows how to act like one of them and his laughs are intentional. Americans have been fooled by lesser people. Indeed, from 2000 to 2008 they were fooled by a lesser species.

To those who think adulterous affairs shouldn't affect a person's ability to function in high office, I would say that if one's judgement is that bad in one area, it's bound to be bad in another or others.

Sure, we're all human. Some humans just let their animal instincts prevail a little too much, some others way too much. and some over the edge too much.

I don't want to have to figure out how much. Screw around, you're out.

Exactly. If you can't resist fooling around will you resist when someone dangles a bag o' money in front of you to buy your influence? In the long run, it's all about temptation.

Well, now that we know Sanford wasn't delivering speeches to pine cones, perhaps Colbert had better keep that crown dusted off!

I hope Colbert goes full speed ahead w/ this and offers to take Sanford's spot in the capitol---------the South needs to have its idiosyncratic pseudo Victorian double standard ripped down-----I grew up in the south------I could write infinite novels of this sh..........

How fortuitous for COBERT and how efffing unfortunate and embarrassing for SANFORD. I love SCS and TDS, but their writers couldn't come up with this kind of dysfunction if they try. Thanks for the entertainment GOP.

His staff THOUGHT he said he would be going on an Appalachian Trail, but he really said he was going to get "Argentinian tail"

While he was "recharging"...
Or, "discharging" (lol)...
Ol' Slippery Sanford left no one IN CHARGE of the state of South Carolina.
I've heard of being a fool for love, but this is pretty extreme.
Now when he resigns and goes back to Argentina, his Mystery Woman should dump him because she thought that he was hot as a governor of a state.
