10 Cars That Show Hope For Detroit
Popular Mechanics:
If the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel is still dim, many of the recent domestic products have given us hope that these companies will shine again. Here are 10 examples.

I had a Malibu as a rental a while back and was fairly impressed with it. It was a big improvement over previous models.
I'm really fascinated with the Ford Transit Connect. Can you imagine how many businesses and tradesmen will benefit from this design? Not big enough for FedEx or UPS, obviously, but more than adequate for most operations if carefully planned. I will definitely trade in my VW Eurovan (lemon) for this vehicle (if I qualify for "Cash for Clunkers").
I heard they've made the Transit (or at least used the name) for several years at least since the early 1970's.
It's too bad the Ford Fiesta is going to be so late in the year the it will miss the Cash for Clunkers program.
Dodge Ram pickup with a Hemi? Ford pickup with a 6.2 liter V8?
The Volt and the Ford Focus EV aren't even on this list.
Ridiculous.
Bwaaaaaahhhahaaaaahahaahaaaaahhhhhaaahaah....
Best Joke of the Day Award.
For once I agree with you. I guess you did not like these toys.
Chevy Malibu looks like a Volkswagen Passat:

Yup just like I commented elsewhere.
Pop Mechanics relies heavily on GM for advertising. What would you expect them to say?
Popular Mechanics has apparently put more emphasis on "popular" than "mechanics".
10 Cars (?) that show "hope" for Detroit???
2 Trucks (full-size), one that is "designed" for "off-road racing"?
2 SUV's? (neither of which are anything remotely close to "innovative".
1 Mini-van delivery vehicle?
1 "world-class" sportscar (that has been a consistent "top performer" for over a decade, but is no where near "innovative in it's current version).
1 "hybrid" electric, with a range-per-charge of 40 miles????????????????
ARE THEY KIDDING?
3 cars that are actually "new", "innovative", and "demonstrate a new level of quality" from Detroit. NOT 1 HYBRID or ALTERNATIVE FUEL VEHICLE amongst them.
I don't hold out much "hope" based on this report.
these cars will all be garbage,if the government is incharge, they wont last 2 years, also much more harmfull then a h3 hummer, this fact is proven already.
Fact?
What "fact" is proven, exactly?
I don't suppose you have any "evidence" to support your claim?
the fact that nickle is more harmful then anything else to dispose of,also two assm lines create more toxin in the factory's,also the amount of nickle used to make a care run, compares to one gas driven car is like using 10 quarts of oil a day.also any return value on these cars no one wants, the value is in the tank, the same car will be around 5,000.00 more per car, this means only a feel good person would drive these slow cars.
Chevy Malibu-don't like the rear styling, what's with the L shaped tailights-looked like they rushed to design the back, instead of making it look like a Chevrolet.
Ford Fiesta-same thing, doesn't have the look that sez Ford.
Ford Taurus-they finally get it right but it took tooo looong! Shoulda done this instead of the '500'.
Noteworthy: The Taurus IS the 500.
I guess in your world, a look that "sez" (sic) Ford or Chevy, is more important than the quality of the design or the construction?
Isn't that what led to declining sales for the past decade?
I agree with you. I have a cutie pie Civic Hybrid and have thought for a long time GM or Ford should swipe some designers from Toyota or Honda. I have rented the Taurus and must say it is really a workhorse and a solid car.
No it's after they accomplish that, they make them all look alike between brands and it's not just GM and Ford; Toyota and Mercedes have look alike styling....
Chevy's Cobalt and the 05 Camry and a Mercedes seem to all have those triangular real taillights-'cmon the designers coulda done a more creative job.
