The ABC News special edition of Primetime "Questions for the President: Prescription for America" drew 4.7 million Total Viewers - last in the time slot but ABC's best 10pm audience in six weeks. NBC's "The Philanthropist" won the time period with 7.4M and CBS' "CSI NY" was second with 7.3M.

Actually, If you survey Americans and ask them questions without alluding to the political affiliation of the question, the country skews Center Right. But the media and Hollywood have turned the word Conservative and Republican into a dirty word. Many people are just sheep anyway. I watched and he did not actually say that. However, to be totally honest, that is what is happening right this minute. Ever hear of "Concierge Doctors"? We sit for 5 hours waiting for an appointment, the richies just pick up the phone and "poof", here comes the Doc. We wait for 5 months for a check up, they pick up the phone and, well, you get it. Also, in another few years, you won't have ANY health care insurance if they don't pass this, so get used to being in a long, long, long line in the EU.

I think 80% of people are satisfied with their own plan-they want to keep it. They must be uneducated-if only they knew how much better the government could do it-look at the bang up job the Stimulus Plan is doing!
Funny, all the polls seem to consistently indicate that an easy 75% of Americans want a public option so that the sick, people who actually need it, are able to buy it and the middle class are able to afford it. Do you have any pre-existing conditions? Have you tried to buy it independent of an employer?
People could be happy with their own plan if they are employed and fortunate enough to have a good plan available to them. The rub is when one becomes unemployed or disabled and can no longer enjoy employer offered insurance. What happens to all of those decent Americans? Cobra is a joke. A premium can go from $119 while employed to $592 when unemployed. Do the math. Personally, I fully support a public non-profit healthcare option.
Many people who do have health insurance think their plan is great until someone in the family gets seriously ill, or they get laid off or both. I know someone who retired early rather than risk being laid off, they couldn't afford COBRA and then a family member was diagnosed with cancer.
Then there's my self-employed brother and sister-in-law who discovered that their catastrophic health coverage that they'd paid into for years wouldn't cover the cost of treatment for her cronic Leukemia.
There are many other stories. You may even find yourself among them someday. Pray that you don't.

As a Canadian, I don't know anyone who had to wait three years for anything. You also don't have anyone going into bankruptcy due to health care costs--that is outrageous.
Our national health care program is not perfect but most Canadians are happy with it and would NEVER give it up. We think your health care is indicative of a lot of your country's issues--favouring corporations at the expense of the people--in this case, their health.

People likely viewed it on media not tallied by the Neilsen Rating system. There are only 9,000 households who are tallied for national viewership figures who have Neilsen boxes installed in their homes. Check out Neilsen's website to learn how they tally viewership. Many people download other media or view programs through online websites.

You maybe right. I tuned in and out just to see how the dialogue was going. If I needed healthcare, I would have been glued to the set. Also, he has talked about this almost at nauseum.

It's pathetic that americans are so ignorant that they would sit and watch Fox News tell lie after lie about the President and others in this country, but they won't sit for one hour and watch the President try to explain why we need Healthcare reform in this country. For those that are struggling paying their bills and having to chose between paying their bills or paying for insurance or buying their meds, don't complain, when your insurance go up so high that you can no longer afford it, or you are going to lose your home because of medical bills. I can't believe we will watch bull S _it on Fox News that is mostly lies, but won't watch a program where the President is trying to help all Americans with health care coverage.
I guess the only conclusion one can draw from these kinds of ratings regarding such an important public debate is that most people are basically cows.
