I Like ItI Don’t Like It

As part of CNN's coverage of Michael Jackson's death, Anderson Cooper told a story about going to Studio 54 when he was 10 with Jackson and other friends.

"When I was 10, for some odd reason, I went to Studio 54 with Michael Jackson and a bunch of people and I had no idea who he was and I saw him dance and I was like, Oh, that guy is a really good dancer."

Later, he tantalizingly added: "Why I was at Studio 54 is a whole other story... Child welfare authorities probably want to talk to my mom."

Does anyone remember what color Anderson's hair was before he started coloring it gray to look more "distinguished newsman-y"?

Okie, that's a natural gray. Some people gray early. I started getting gray when I was 16 yrs old. Gray hair in my family starts young. What is the beef with his hair turning gray? I never colored my hair. My husband loves my gray hair.

I mean I loved the guy from "Off The Wall", this beautiful young man in a tuxedo who rocked my night away with the lyrics from "Rock With You" which, if I were to hear it now still brings tears to my eyes, who ushered me into the 70's and later into the military and made an otherwise mundane decade pop-filled and happy, who was the only guy worth dancing to in a forgettable disco era (and boy was I on the floor in 1978-79), who who could do no wrong in my eyes...but who later tore me apart with so many disappointing turns in his life to where I wanted to hide my head in the sand and disavow that this is the same guy who gave all of us such happiness. Michael, who almost felt like my younger brother (by two years) back then, died many years ago. And now that the shell of him that remained is gone, I can finally put all the painful distractions of the past 25 years aside and just dig the music and the guy I love:

Girl, close your eyes Let that rhythm get into you
Dont try to fight it There aint nothin that you can do
Relax your mind Lay back and groove with mine
You got to feel the heat And we can ride the boogie
Share that beat of love
I wanna rock with you (all night)
Dance you into day (sunlight)

Kind of banal, simple-minded stuff, wasn't it? Makes you wonder what all the fuss was about...

If you once shook Eleanor Roosevelt's hand, you're probably too old to have EVER ridden the boogie, felt the heat or grooved, so I think you're disqualified from proffering any objective judgments.

But hey, there's probably some great Ragtime or Dixieland tunes you can hum along to or maybe you can play your favorite songs on your lute or harpsichord. lol...

What's so bad about Anderson mentioning he met
MJ when he was a kid? I don't see the big deal. And
Anderson covered Hurricane Katrina and has been
in violent countries reporting. What a bunch of
bitter people. Jealous perhaps?

It's probably because of all the gay rumors about him...

I hadn't hreard the rumors about him, but have often wondered and when I read this, my first thought was where else did you go with him?

It's always illuminating when Cooper lets the commoners peek into his vapid existence and remind them that he's nothing more than a nepotistic, vacuous, vanity case

Cooper, although raised in the lap of luxury, had a paper route. He didn't have to do it, he just did. He has ALWAYS worked and worked in places you'd probably never set foot in because of the horrible conditions . . . Burma [Myanmar], Bosnia, Somalia, Rwanda.

Get over yourself.

yeah, AC is just like those other privledged kids, hanging out w/Paris, clubbing and having BFF shows.

gosh, couldn't the guy pick up a microphone in a warzone or something.....

He did and it was called Katrina. Remember when the cops were shooting at people trying to get off the bridge?

Ahh, yes. While us commoners were off to developing countries to learn a foreign language or to report from war zones so that school children could be better informed, that nepotistic, vacuous vanity case was.....hmmm.

Why do so many posters want to make so much out of the ten-year old model and son of the famous Gloria Vanderbilt remembering out loud that, among many other famous and trendy people of the day, he met Michael Jackson at one of the main places where A-List entertainers and stars hung out? Did Cooper hint at anything bent, immoral, "interesting" having gone on? No. It's just these posters here like posters everywhere, who hate not having lives of their own without doing anything about it but make sour grapes remarks.
Anderson Cooper is the most fabulous Anderson Cooper, son of the most fabulous Gloria Vanderbilt. Not only that, he's incredibly good-looking and cool. Some people just can't stand that. Why? It's been that way since Joseph, incredibly good-looking and cool son of the fabulous Rachel was around:. Leah's boys are still around, angry now at Anderson Cooper.

Love love love the biblical reference. Very clever and true

I found it intersting that he met MJ at Club 54. More interesting was the fact that he was 10 yrs old hanging out at a place that alcohol was served. I always like to hear peoples stories of interesting things they do. He just made the comment.

Great post. I was thinking that it was odd that at a time when a lot of people are remembering times they met or shared w/ Mike... people would take such offense to this. I like your explanation... Rachel's son v. Leah's sons.... hahahahahahahaha

Could we have a moment without snark? Maybe you would like a bunch of snark for your passing too -- just email me and i will do my best to provide it.

I was in discos at 14. It was no big deal until they raised the drinking age in the 80s. Then I couldn't go anymore until i was 21. I think there were laws about being present but not drinking. It wasn't as restrictive as it is now and i think gloria vanderbuilt can be considered a decent mom still.

there is a channel for people that don't like cnn -- its called fox. i suggest you just go there and stay there, oh and take your snark with you.
