Wall Street Journal:

South Carolina Rep. Bob Inglis made a name for himself in the late 1990s as one of Bill Clinton's most zealous pursuers, an impeachment "manager" who attacked the moral failings of the president with a gusto that earned him a devoted following in the staunchly conservative "Upstate" of conservative South Carolina.

But with his governor now felled by similar temptations, Inglis sees an opening for the Republican Party, a chance to "lose the stinking rot of self-righteousness" and "to understand we are all in need of some grace."

Republican Congressman Bob Inglis (N.C.)

Does not get to say . . .
“[M]arriage draws its meaning from God, NOT GOVERNMENT.” (1)

Then vote as a government official (2) . . .
* NO to civil unions and marriage for same sex couples.
* NO on prohibiting job discrimination based on sexual orientation.
* YES on Constitutionally defining marriage as one-man-one-woman.

Does not get to say . . .
* "Marriage makes two into one. It's intimacy and maybe children; it's sharing life; it's commitment; it's joy and sorrow, struggle and triumph, singing and crying. It's -- well -- it's a religious experience.” (3)

Then say . . .
* He wants the voters “to understand we are all in need of some grace” (4)when fellow republicans are being arrested or outed in D.C. whorehouses, Minnesota airport restrooms, U.S. senate offices, Argentina or online chat rooms.

Inglis and his fellow Republicans voted to “protect marriage” by denying it to same sex couples? Republicans have fueled their campaigns on “Family Values,” “Christian Values” and the crusade to “defend marriage,” all the while trampling it underfoot.

Hypocritical bigots!

Republicans, the GOP what ever they want to go by, may start to give the impression that they have put their sanctimonious attitudes away but make no mistake, their goal has and always will be, to have permanent Republican control of this country. When they get that control, they will reclaim their self-righteous attitude. They will never accept the fact that all Americans are entitled to an opinion and a voice in the running of our government. The way they are currently ignoring the will of the people in the last election and their unrelenting tearing away at President Obama is proof that they do not respect the election process that we have in this country.

Convenient turn-around there, Bob. When it's one of your own with the wayward sex life, you suddenly become all humble and willing to extend "grace" and forgive.

And where was this lovely christian charity 11 years ago?

"Inglis sees an opening for the Republican Party." I wonder what the Morning Jo(k)e frat boys will do with that line tomorrow.

Perhaps the Republican Party can survive to become more of a social club or a group therapy self help program. They can climb together the 12 steps towards rehabilitation from ideological madness and mean spiritedness.

Otherwise, the party needs to dwindle down into the dusk, go away, and whimper its way into history along with the Whigs, the Bull Moose Party, the Prohibition Party and the Federalists.

My God, this Republican is so self-righteous, he's even self-righteous about self-righteousness. Will no one save us from the sanctimonious pieties of these Jesus exploiters?

It must really stick in the craw of these great "defenders" of Family Values, Traditional Marriage and the Confederate Flag enshrined within the South Carolina state flag that THE most visible, talked about and admired, living, breathing example of Family Values and Traditional Marriage happens to be the charismatic, beautiful, loving picture-book couple with two children, a loving resident grandma and a dog who grace the White House! And *gasp*, they're Democrats!

Well, it was a VERY SLOW and LONG road to this new "forgiveness as written in the gospels" bullshit!

As a slightly savvier yet still retarded GOPer at least he sees the political pitfall of continuing to be the party of "Christian Conservative Adulterers Caught in the Act"!

When conservatives have a cellphone line to God, they can run on a platform of moral values, legislate morality and still demand grace from people who've they've condemned as immoral and losers.

Bob Inglis 2.0 is no different from Bob Inglis 1.0, especially when he feels he is closer to the Gospel. It's always the people who have the highest sense of morality that violates it because they see themselves above the moral "laws" they impose on other people.

Didn't see a word in the WSJ article about what Iglis would do if they "lose the stinking rot of self-righteousness". Somehow I can't picture the GOP doning sackclothe and going around confessing their sins and saying they are just men just like any other man (sorry for the male reference). Nor can I see them practicing true humility and forgiveness. They have no concept of what is truly entailed in living life as a righteous man, only one who is self-righteous.

"Blessed are you poor, For yours is the kingdom of God…Woe to you who are rich, For you have received your consolation"; and,"Truly I say to you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. "Again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."; and, "Sell your possessions and give to charity; make yourselves money belts which do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near nor moth destroys." (Luke 6:20, 24; Matt. 19:23-24; Luke 12:33)

Only in the conservative universe do they get to be self-righteous and then turn around and demand grace when their political platform is to legislate morality.

Nevertheless: when its a Democrat that errs the Reth.ugs come out of the woodwork with a passion.
a self-righteous passion, that is.
but when one of their own errs. Oh, we should have some grace... ironic isn't it?
They misuse that word: Grace.
Grace is what God gives to us sinful material baggage. We don't get to give grace.
the Word Grace means God's forgiveness for Us no matter what we do.

Of course infidelity is sadly Bipartisan phenomenon but the Democrats do not set themselves up as without sin able to judge everyone else...it is the sickening hypocrisy of the right that is the ROT.
