Bob Inglis made a name for himself in the late 1990s as one of Bill Clinton's most zealous pursuers, an impeachment "manager" who attacked the moral failings of the president with a gusto that earned him a devoted following in the staunchly conservative "Upstate" of conservative South Carolina.

But with his governor now felled by similar temptations, Inglis sees an opening for the Republican Party, a chance to "lose the stinking rot of self-righteousness" and "to understand we are all in need of some grace."

The GOP will only gain credibility if they start WORKING and do their jobs instead of playing political games. Gingrich, Delay, Vitter, Ensign, Foley, Craig were ALL having affairs themselves when they were calling for Clinton to resign for having an affair. Gingrich is the worse of all. He was the loudest megaphone during the Clinton scandal -he MADE it the scandal. But at the exact same time he was leading the charge against Clnton, he was cheating on his own wife and then dumped her (she had cancer at the time) for a young GOP staffer. I'm sick of Republican Politicians wrapping themselves in the U.S. Flag, holding the Cross of Christ on their right shoulder, walking through our home towns, & across the nation, while the baptist choir signs christian hymns as they condemn anyone who is a Democrat as: demon-sinners, heathern, socilaist, immoral people, incapable of governing. Worse are the christians quoting scripture condeming ANYONE who has a negative comment about Sanford's SELF-ADMITTED, dishonest, decietful, lying adultereous affair with another married women. He himself said his "actions are the reason PEOPLE ARE TURNED off to Christianity". He abandones his fatherly & Gov responsibilites while he was AWOL on the southern end of South America WITHOUT A MEANS TO CONTACT him in the event of a state emergency. Now, these chrtistians are quoting the bible in an attempt to end comments about Sanfords self admitted sins. Where was this scripture when the CHRISTIANS, the GOP & their politicans were (and still are) calling President Obama a Muslim, socialist, NON U.S. Citizen...or the last time they cast stones as they judged gays, or those who favor FREEDOM OF CHOICE. how about the baptist ministers/leaders who stand in their pulpits spewing Democrate HATE. This is just more spin, damage control. They will now spin it that they need Go d's mercy, because they are human -- but Go d's grace is not to be used when passing legislation for the people of the country. They will be the only people who should be shown mercy. The people dying because they can't get health care, a job, a home, an education, food .... His last conversation with Gov. Mark Sanford was about the hundreds of millions of dollars in stimulus money that the uncompromising governor was trying to refuse for his impoverished state. Inglis had voted against President Barack Obama’s $787 billion stimulus bill, ardently, he said.

But he said he told the governor, now that it was approved, “for goodness sake, take the money.” It might just help.

Cheap grace comes from losing the "stinking" rot of silf righteous moralizing because you've discovered that it doesn't work any more and you've decided there's a political opening in big announcements about dropping it.
